Sunday night's hunt should have been perfect, it was super quite the cows weren't around, but something was wrong and I didn't know it. It was almost 30 minutes after sunset so I decided to get out of my pop up blind after only seeing some passing turkey and change the feeder times for opening weekend. Lucky for me I had not folded up my blind all the way and was carrying it out in front of me. I was headed right for 6 foot of pure evil laying directly under the feeder. He must have been laying in wait for a corn loving meal of some sort. As my blind almost touched him the rattles went off and I stopped( ok I may have let out a small scream). I tried to kill him with the bow but I just busted the arrow on the rock next to him when I missed. So I picked up a nearby "two hander" rock and smashed his arse. He lost his head eventually with some handy work with a knife. ALL HUNTING NEWBIES PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING NOTE; THIS IS A PRIME EXAMPLE OF WHAT WE LIKE TO CALL A "GOOD SNAKE". This is often denoted by the missing head and the lack of breathing. If you see a snake with any one of these two features, please know it is a "bad snake".

Also went out to Horseshoe Bay to the Oakridge subdivision on the lake. Deer are everywhere in that neighbor hood. Imagine walking out in the morning to a yard full of bucks.

Canyon Lake looks like that too but you wake up to 50 in your yard.....shake a coffee can of corn and they come running..... They do let residents bow hunt or they use to when I was in college.

Shhhhhhhh better to be quiet than remove all doubt..

That is just too cool. Good job on the snake.

Friend, I wouldn't harm thee for all the world, but thou art standing where I am about to shoot.

hate snakes. hate em. As far as HS bay goes, I used my buddy's lakehouse as camp when we do our annual buddy hunt on his ranch down the road. Usually see better bucks in his front yard than we do on the ranch...

That one is a nice eating size. I loved to handle those snakes when I lived in San Angelo.

Check one of the first threads in the "Photos" section, it will explain how. You have to do it through Photobucket.com

Uhhhhh. Hate those things. Grew up in Sweetwater so I go more than my share growing up! Being young and stupid helped me kill a lot of them but I don't go looking for em anymore.

Those are babies in Horshoe Bay. I know a spot out there where you can go look at 170 class bucks and they will just stand there and look at you out there.

I wont say exactly where because some idiot a couple years ago went out there and poached one with a crossbow. Dont want to tempt people into something dumb.

Most of the rattle snakes killed on our lease are close to the feeders. Anyone know why these snakes stay close to the feeders?

Western Diamondback. Black and white tail is the give away. Most agressave of the rattlers.
