I have shot 4 animals with my .270 in w model 70 this year with nosler ballistic in 140gr, two pigs and two WTs at ranges from 60 to 200 yards. I have had the same size hole on both sides of each animal, no exspansion. Has any else had the same problem? Also I am thinking of going to a game king, what do you think of that bullet?

how far did they run?the other thing could be the speed of the bullet(fac.or hand loads)i use them my self and you dont always get a big exit hole, there are a million reasons why,as for game king i dont care for them....

I have had just the opposite results. They seem to fragment as soon as they hit the skin. Do way to much damage to the meat. The Accu Bond seems to be a little better. The Ballistic silver tip is accurate but the same as the regular Ballistic tip. The partitioner works great for me. Game King is good too.

Thats odd I've always seen massive damage from BT's. The game king is a real good bullet and a little bit cheaper.

I started shooting nosler bt's in a 270 130gr last year and have shot two deer and one hog and haven't had any problems other than the bullet not exiting on both deer, but they both dropped in their tracks. The hog I shot in the ear so of course he dropped. I will be switching bullets next year however because I like to have an exit wound because I like to have a good blood trail if the animal runs.

I shoot 150 grain nosler bt's in my 30-06 and I have never had an issue. I love 'em. Your experience with the bullets so far may be a fluke. If the bullet happened to make it through the animal without hitting bone or cartilage, it might not expand as quickly. You may want to consider a heavier grain bullet. Federal makes a 150 grain, Nosler Partition that has very similar ballistics to it's 130 grain Ballistic Tip and it will definitely have a little more knockdown power. It has a little slower muzzle velocity but the kinetic energy down range is a little higher. Check out this link to compare for yourself. http://www.federalpremium.com/ballistics/Ammo_Search.aspx

thank you for the responses:JoeS I have read on other forums that they fragement, I have only seen good reports on the silver tip. gnuts; what kind of effective range should I get from 150gr in a 270. One pig head shot=dead, one pig behind the shoulder=dead, first deer ran about 150yds, Yesterday 300yds maybe more except for the head shot small in/out- not good. I used to use 130 sst-lm in hornady I can no longer have any and cant find it. My brother handloaded them for me I will ask him what he used, he wants to chronograph them for me

I shoot the nosler ballistic tip from a 30-06. 180 grain handloads smoking at 2900+ fps and it does a ton of damage... Great for pigs. Haven't had a chance to try it on a deer yet but imagine it might be overkill. Even on long range pigs(200+ yrds) it leaves a fist size exit hole.

No joke. I am very tempted to finish off the rounds I have and then back it down. I originally saw this loading for the 165 grain but dad messed up and grabbed the 180 grain instead of the 165 when he was at the bullet shop. I tweaked it down some to accomodate for the extra bullet weight but it is scary to shoot. Bad thing is it's the best round I have put through the barrel of that gun from handloads to off the shelf ammo.

thanks again guys! Like I said already the sst lm was effective never had an animal take one step. always showed signs of exspansion. I have been using fusion in 30-06 same results. If we {my brother and I} can not work up load that is effective then I will use fusion, I have used it in my 243{marginal caliber for WTs in my opinion} but it shows to have good exspansion in that caliber also it just does not always knock them down like the 270&30-06 that I own. Any info on the nosler ballistic tip would be a HUGE favor I would prefer personal experience. THANK YOU! again

I have been digging back through my brain trying to remember all the different loads I have shot animals with. I do recall shooting some pigs with a 150 grain 30-06 ballistic tip. There was not alot of damage from this load. Just a through and through with no more than a quarter size exit wound. If my memory serves me right these were Winchester factory loads and maybe a little slower than the others I am shooting now. I am not a bullet expert so maybe some others can chime in here. From my experience and Leftys experience it almost points to the lighter BT as having too much penetration?? I know the 180's are super potent, but can that little extra bit of mass make that much difference?

I have shot both 140 and 150 grain nosler balistic tips out of my 270 win. I was satisfied with both bullets, the 140's were factory loaded, and the 150's were my handloads. The factory 140 would make a caliber entry and a little bigger than a quarter exit, very good bullets, deer never took a step with them. The 150 were very explosive, made massive exit wounds, but killed deer dead in their tracks. I think they are great killing bullets, the only problem is they can be a little hard on the meat hunter. I would recomend you try some hornady interlocs in 130 or 150 grain, they do very well, or if you handload or dont mind spening 20 bucks a box for amo you can buy them already loaded some nosler partitions, great bullets, will do the job flawlesly, but if you are looking for a big exit wound you dont want the NP's.
