My wife & I watched a fox last night right after dark playing around about 20 yds from our dog kennel (the dogs are what let us know it was there). I could have shot it easily but I just didn't want to, should I shoot him? Are foxes known to carry diseases? I would rather just let him be & deal with the dogs barking at him every once in a while but they know he is in the small patch of woods next to my house & are always trying to go hunt him down. So should I get rid of him or let him be? If I'm killing him, I'm going to wait till winter so he will at least make a nice mount.

I see no need to kill him unless he is taking out small farm animals. A fox mount would be nice I admit.

I'd just leave him be. Unless you have chickens or small cats he doesn't pose a threat. He'll also keep the rodent population down.

foxes are common carriers of rabies. and if your dogs do get after it and get bit i'd keep a careful eye on them, and i'm sure those dogs would love to get ahold of him... he probably doesn't have rabies, but why risk it... i'd pop him , but thats just me.

lol rabies is most common in skunks an coons i wouldnt worry bout it , your dogs are more likely to get it from a bat an the only way they can get it is from the saliva of the infected animal so unless it comes up biting your dogs you anit gotta worry , foxes are up on the list to but they are cool to watch an dont really bother much , but the mouse and bird population

We've got one, too. Cool little guy. He barks at me before he scampers off. They make an interesting sound.

I'm gonna leave him be. Unless I notice him acting strange, I might even buy some cheap dog food to put out for him. My neighbor that walks early in the morning says that we have four of these little suckers running around.

he eats lots of mice and rats let him be.
one morning i woke up to screaming, the miss was out in the backyard checking on our barking dogs, damn skunk was back there and had lost his mind, he was chasing after the dogs, after my wife, was head butting a soccer ball around, got my .22 to end his rabies infected delusions, sucker came at me and i unloaded at 5 yds.

We have two red foxes that live in the woods right beside my dads house, see them running around all the time. No need to shoot them IMO, they pose no threat and are cool to see.

Now we had a coon try to attack us one day, had to have had rabies or something wrong with it. It kept chasing me around the yard making a weird aggressive noise. Had to kill him with a shovel.

I work on the river and got several foxes around. like to watch em eat bugs etc, I feed em scraps. they let me get sort of close but not too close, houses down the road, all the women feed em. have not known them to harm any pets. this is almost in town, brown foxes. the red foxes are really a beautiful little animal, and I mean little, I got no urge to shoot one like I do coyotes.

I hate yotes! I don't have a reason to shoot bobcats or fox. So they are pretty safe around me. Actually with the high number of yotes around here, i dont ever see any fox.

Oh, that's something to brag about...

BTW, I had a silver fox in our property for years I used to see him most morning when I drove out our gate. No reason to shoot a fox, there aren't many of them left (they all went to Kaleb place to get caught in a foot trap) if he does have rabies he won't be around long anyway.
If you want to run him off, let the dogs out, he won't come back.

We have killed several this year. The last one was in my goat pens and as big as my blue heeler.

There are a quite a few hanging around HSU out in abilene, they are fun to watch.

I would leave him alone, unless he becomes a problem.

I live in the city of Richardson, Tx. I keep a live trap at a pinch point behind the garage going to the back yard where I have a garden. Catch a lot of possums and several really large racoons, but I have caught two different fox also. I usually call animal control who take them to Breckenridge park and release them. That's a few miles from my place, but there are now two fox that look a great deal like the two taken away. You know what they say, "they all look alike to me anyway." Sometimes we can see them playing at night in the yard. They're no danger, I hunt hogs, but really don't see the need to kill them. They really are pretty cool.

I think it'd be pretty cool to have a few foxes running around. It's not everyday that you get to see one.
