Drove my dad around my place, filled a feeder and set up a camera. Just getting him out of the house. Well, upon exiting my gate on the small county road I notice orange flags on the neighbors place across from me. I think, woohoo, maybe he is selling that little piece and I can add on. I drive down to the corner and notice that the flag there is hanging from a branch not at the corner of his place. It is right over a game trail. So I check the other flags. All are marking game trails through the brush and fence. Two flags mark the biggest most used trail. Five flags total. The flags are not on survey stakes, but from tree limbs. They are only visible from the road due to cover on the fence lines. This piece of road is between a rise on one end and a blind curve on the other. What do you think this is? A road hunter’s shooting lane is my thought.

If so, not a very smart one to mark his area

Do you think it could be someone running a trapline and marking sets/snares?

Yup, odd to mark these so boldly. The flags were hanging off limbs on the road side of the fence, all visible from either end.
Could be snares were there that I missed...
Can you trap on a county road?

One other thing it could be is that if the trees are overhanging into the road to far with the curve in the road the county might be marking trees to trim to help widen the road and the view in the curve. Odd that they are only on trails though.

I should of taken a picture. The flags were about a foot long and hanging from limbs that didn't extend into the drive lane. just into the little bar ditch along side. DIRECTLY over the trails. Two marking the most heavily used. I called the game warden. He didn't have any idea either. Said he would drive by... I sure don't know...

If there is a lot of timber on the other land it could be counters counting trees to get an estimate on value of timber. Counters will tag where they enter and exit so they do not miss any trees.

Why not just ask the neighbor? I asked the steers that live there and they were hush-hush on the matter. j/k No home on the place guys. Not certain which property it is on the appraisel district site. Anyway, I prefer speculation way more than hard fact...

Good news: I read that gays use flags to mark the spots of their orgies in the woods.
Not poachers.

Not poachers. That's pretty freaking funny. Disturbing, but funny.

actually the flags for gays is true. last weekend a game warden stopped and talked to me asking if I've seen any flags or mote specifically walmart bags. he said if I see one just to report and keep driving. apparently there's been a problem with that on LBJ grasslands. that's there marking for a big orgy
