I have Leica Geovid 10x42's and love them. Don't have to carry a seperate rangefinder and bino's. I chose 10 power due to the fact that I had trouble holding 12x steady when not in a deer blind. Just my preference. I have never looked thru a pair of Burris so I can not tell you much about them in comparison.

Not trying to jack your post but I too am ready to upgrade from my 10X25 Nikon compacts that I have hunted with for nearly 15 years. I looked through some Leica optics on a mule deer hunt about 13 years ago and was very impressed.
On a budget though what do you guys think of the Leopold 10X42?

Ditto on the Geovid's. If you can swing it, do it.

The Leupys are not bad for the price

A guy I work with picked up a set of Leopolds yesterday from Academy.

Looked good, felt good etc.

While putting them back in the box we got quite a shock!!!

MADE IN CHINA

If it were me, I would have taken them back.
I wouldn't have thought that I would need to check if Leopold was made in China.

Had an older pair of the Leopolds given to me last year and use them in the off season and I like them ok. They are lightweight and have a great lens coating. I also had a pair of Nikon 10x42 Monarch ATBs that were clear but the lens coating did not hold up to the off season abuse I put them under. Neither are as clear as Leicas but lightweight and work well in good light.

Optics are one of the few things in the world where you get what you pay for. When someone says their 200 pair look just as clear as a 600 pair they have never compaired both at last light conditions or looked thru both all day. Spend as much as you can afford and you will not regret it. Good Luck with your choice. Baker

On a budget the minox are hard to beat and have compared them to my Swaros side x side and for $1200 less money they are great glass.

x2. I picked up some Zeiss 12x42 a couple of years ago. They were $1100 everywhere else but the camerland guys had a pair that were "demos" for less than $800. When I got them there was absolutely no way you could ever tell the package had even been opened. I've also bought a Zeiss scope from them.

X3 on cameraland in NY. I've bought 3 different pieces of glass from them in the last 10 or so years. No one will match their sale prices. Baker

I have used my Burris for about 5 years now (10x50). A friend of mine who runs a game ranch told me about them and has a pair. For $300, I am well pleased. I think they are the signature model.

I've heard good things about the Vortex and I also read several good reveiws on the Zen-Rays on MonsterMuleys. Baker

The bushy fusion arc 1600's are great for the money. Can be had on eBay Nib all day long for $675. I recommended the 10x42 geovids to a buddy ad he ended up with the fusion. I'm thoroughly impressed with the clarity and ranging accuracy

Zen-rays and minox have both been getting great reviews.
Almost bought a minox scope this year
