All I know is I don't want this mount coming off the wall. I'm like a kid at Christmas who can't play with any of his toys!!! My Dad's fell off the wall last month after being anchored for 15 years. Busted it up pretty bad. My wife would kill me if this thing comes off the wall after I just paid the taxidermy bill. She already wasn't happy about that, even though I keep telling her $300 is cheap!!!!

I wired houses for a year. Take the face plate off the outlet. You can then take a knife and insert it on either side of the nail on box to find the stud. If they used a standard nail on box, you won't be able to tell which side of the box the stud is on by looking at it

Nice Buck congrats on the good looking mount. Do what you want but I am a firm believer in hanging my mounts directly to a stud. Stud finder works best and they are pretty cheap at the Depot.

This should be the best way.

bmd, u know they make dry wall anchors to hold REALLY HEAVY STUFF.... ya, the lil baby ones will pull out ona shoulder mount, but they make big boy anchors too.

I second third and fourth the stud...why chance it to a pice that just screws into your drywall? you can also get studfinders at wally world for like 8 bucks. spend the money and do it right the first time and save yourself the heartache of a possible messed up mount and a hole in your wall!!

Not that the anchors are not strong enough it is the drywall thickness I would worry about. Find a stud and be done with it for good.

When I first saw this post I thought it sounded like an ad in the back of "Dallas observer magazine".Go with the stud and don't jeopardize your trophy taking a nose dive into the floor. 2cents
