If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

IMO Culling should only be after you have addressed other issues in your management. What are your goals? Do or have you done surveys? What is your buck/doe/fawn ratio? Carrying capacity you have and for your area? What is your age structure on bucks? What age are your trying to harvest bucks? What is the age structure on your doe? Do you have to many bucks? Harvest records? After answering these then you can start to think about address culling. Most people think about improving buck quality by killing more of them. You need to address other problems first. I am a believer in the fact that you can do more to help your buck herd by culling the right doe and the right amount of them.

X1000 Redraider- yes it's a big buck, but only has 7 points. This was the only time I saw him so I don't know what he looked like at a younger age.

Told you the other info was coming Really is sound advice and no matter what the difference of opinions that people may have about what works best, pretty sure we would all agree that you need an overall management plan that addresses more than just culls, otherwise you are just killing deer.

Last weekend I saw a great buck in the cooler at a meat processer. He was a "cull buck" from a local high fence ranch; for me he would have been a trophy. It's all a matter of location and perspective.

I once hunted on a lease that adjoined a smaller tract of land and struck a conversation one eveing with the couple of the hunters, mentioning that we hadn't shot anything, but were somewhat selective on what we shoot, and one of them mentioned they've only shot cull bucks.
Considering the amount of shooting that had been taking place over there, they must have taken pretty much their tags of "cull bucks" and I had a hard time keeping a straight face when they said that.
It's funny now, but seems every buck that jumped their fence was a "cull buck!"
Thursday at 12:45 PM #33 Once i learned that i didn't "NEED" to kill something, and that if i did kill something all the fun stopped and work began, i was a much better hunter.

everyone has their own way.... to me, a cull is easy. Do you want more deer like that on your place... that's the question you ask. There are no guarantees to wipe out a specific genetic trait, but if I'm shooting for big 10 point or 12 point frames... why in the heck do I want to let a ratchet headed 4 year old 8 point eat my expensive food, and bang all the does?

Then why are you keeping those 2-9 points you posted pics of? They ain't 10 or 12 point frames

they're 10 point frames! the one with the kickers has a 4 on his right side I didn't see before. all 9 pointers are dying this year... I pity the fool that's a 8-9 pointer (at least 4 years old). We'll let the babies walk

this is that deer that was just blurry under neath the feeder.... I think?
I have 200 photos of this guy. This is only the 2nd year this place has ever been hunted... in probably the last 30 years at least. no telling what is out there... there are only cameras on 3 of 7 stands right now. if I weren't such a tight wad, I'd buy 4 more cameras...
We're going to be aggressive getting junk like that 5 point out of there... plus a BUNCH of 4-7 year old 8 and 9 points that are under 145.
