Archery equipment should be defined as implements that are held by hand, drawn by hand and released by the motion of the hand in the presence of game. If you are shooting a crossbow, you are not drawing the string in the presence of game. That alone gives crossbow shooters an unfair advantage. It is not bowhunting. Bowhunting shouldn’t be simple or easy. Most bowhunters understand it is inherently more difficult than other types of hunting, and they intentionally select that path. Because it is difficult, and because success is elusive, when it happens the reward is much greater.Crossbows don’t simply force questions about redistribution of opportunity; they also raise questions about whether technologically advanced hunting tools belong in seasons originally reserved for hunters with primitive weapons. Modern compound bows have already raised the stakes. Crossbows simply push the envelope a little further. So what comes next?

Kinda feel like Hunting is a slowly dying past time. The more the merrier, helps out bow shops, gets more folks in the wood I really don't see it as a bad thing.

so you plan on changing the definition of archery equipment? I have a hard time picking a topic within your thread to argue with because of the simple fact that crossbows and bows are two different things, but they fall under archery category because they are not a firearm. The season is "archery season" not bow season.

compounds have advantages that go unseen by most. So it doesnt bother me if people want crossbows, that just makes me feel alot better in the field.

So you use a primitive bow, climb a tree sit on a limb or stay on the ground and wear buckskin while you hunt. No scent control items for you, treestands or blinds or any of that Technologically advanced hunting tools. Lets see a pic of your bow set up?

True (re. not worth arguing with)... but worth pointing out that he transported the same post from another thread where he was called out for raining on a new member's post about his first successful crossbow kill.
This holier-than-thou crap is detrimental to the sport. Same stupid arguments abound over traditional versus modern smokepoles, open sights versus scopes, feeders versus spot and stalk, and on and on and on, ad nauseum.
To those who engage in these stupid arguments, pause a moment and look in the mirror. You are looking the enemy of the future of our sport.

You guy use too much equipment and waste too much time. I just open the freezer and there it is, the packaged venison. Even cut and packaged to my specifications.

I'll bet you a $100 that I can take my wifes crossbow hold it in my hand, Draw and [censored] it by hand and release the arrow by hand in the presence of a deer. I shoot a self-made long bow and a compound because I want to. My wife has a severe shoulder engery and can no longer draw a longbow or compound any more, so according to "YOU" she should no longer be able to hunt during archery season. By your thinking then we should not allow modern rifles during firearm season and only allow the use of muzzle loaders since newer ammo is to accurate and travels way to fast that its not sporting anymore. It is getting harder and harder to get new people in hunting without people like you with this kind of attitude spouting thier half witted ideas. OK my rants over.

Better yet, bare hand assault...naked I will stop watching hunting shows if it comes to naked hunting. Although the bare handed assault would be quite entertaining. But then there is Tiffany who looks good on film in camo. Wait!!! Back to subject!!! I have an opinion but on this subject I will refrain from sharing. If it opens up opportunity for more hunters to hit the field then it has to be a plus for the sport.

A real bowhunter uses a longbow or a recurve, everything else is "just" hunting.

Other than having a shoulder injury I really don't understand why anyone would rather use a xbow instead of some of the modern compounds out there like a matthews z7, or hoyt CRX. I tried the z7 out and its ridiculous how easy that thing is to shoot and its soo much lighter and more maneuverable than a big bulky/heavy xbow, even the new ones. I'll be honest I wasn't a fan when they did decide to allow xbows for everyone in bow season, however after a little research I think with todays technology going into compounds that theres not big advantage of using one weapon vs. the other, so I really have no problem if someone want so use and xbow during bow season. One other thing noticed, I have yet to run into an xbow hunter since the law was changed, the compound appears to have a much larger following and doesn't look like thats going to change in the foreseeable future.

Nah real mean stalk their Prey till it dies of old age then drag it back to camp... youre pretty much just being "lazy" if you use anything that sends and sharp or blunt object faster than the prey itself
