Cattle were put on my feeder 4 weeks....and for 4 weeks nothing but cattle and hogs on my pics....had to build a fence...now that the fence is up the hogs have rooted out one corner and are still malesting my feeder....since then still no deer but signs of deer within 100-150 yds around....im hoping once it cools down and the deer start moving during the day I might have some success but im just lost as to what to do now....any suggestions

Get the hogs and make sure they are not allowed into the pen. Make it stronger or whatever you have to do. Deer wont compete with other animals for food.

Fix the fence, shoot the pigs.
How tall is the fence?

I've found feeder pens with corners don't work as well as round, oval, octagonal or kidney shape. Seems they usually come in at a corner.

fence is 42" tall...shootin the pigs is almost impossible they are on my feeder from 8:30 pm to about 5:40am every night almost every minute on the minute and its dozens of different groups im going out this weekend to reinforce it but really all im afraid i can do is cement the corners in

I have also heard, but cannot confirm that round pens work better due to the lack of corners.

Also, how big is the pen? If it is to small, the deer will not jump in.

its 20' x 50' same as I do every year....same fence I had last year...its just with this drought, it seems its the only thing the hogs can find...it must also be my location because they are not torturing the other feeders on our lease like they are mine

Bingo. Build your pens out of Hog panels. No less than 60'x60'. I build mine 80'x80'. If you will build the pen correctly, hogs won't trench in. We rent a small trencher and cut about 6" into the ground. The bottom of the panels go in the trench and are then cemented and covered with dirt. Only time a hog ever got into one of them it was an Olympic Jumping Pig but I killed her after I saw a trailcam photo.

If you build pens smaller than 60'x60', you're wasting your time and money as far as deer utilizing them in any kind of numbers.

I understand what you are saying, but I have always built my pens this size and have never had any issues....this actual pen has been here for over 3 years now actually guess im going to have to reinforce the heck out of it this weekend....just hope it wont ruin my season

Deer want nothing to do with hogs. As far as your pen goes go to Home Depot or Lowes buy rebar & bend it with hooks on the end. Drive em into the ground every so many feet where the hook catches panel while driving onto the ground. Also while at HD, go to the ceiling tile section they sell wire in bundles it is very thick & sturdy, use this to ty your corners together. I have a 32x32 built like this and no hogs get in at.

You working on the pen isn't going to have as much of an impact on your season as the pigs eating all the corn will.

I still have one feeder to set up and probably won't get to it for a week or two.
I'm not worried about it at all, if I put it in the right spot the deer will come soon after corn is on the ground.

ill definitelt get the rebar...i already had 3 strings or barbed wire around it once I get the corners a little more secure that should make me set to go....as to the season I usually dont hunt too far into november because we do a lot of waterfowl hunting so its hard to find that happy medium....i do appreciate all the posts guys..

Your problem is your pen is not big enough to keep all the corn inside and away from the hogs. Your pen needs to be out of cattle panels at this point since the hogs have found a way to get in and will continue. Once they have figured out how to get in they will be coming back all the time. Good luck.

That round pen thing actually has to do with trapping hogs. In a square pen , hogs will get up in a corner and just lay there till they die, unlike a pen with no corners.

The last 3 seasons I have had hogs take over a feeder of mine that has barbed wire around it. Right before rifle season each time I sit and wait for them to show up and shoot the biggest one right in the head with my 300. They leave and don't come back for at least a month after that and then I shoot another one. They don't even show up on camera at night. I plan on doing the same thing this saturday, but I am having too much fun trying to shoot them with my bow so I may hold off. They are not like deer that will run away 25 yards and then come back and eat around the dead one laying next to the pen they leave and don't come back.

That's some serious pen building. I haven't trenched and concreted any of them in yet, but that sure ought to do it. LOL

I have had alot of problems with this...in the past ive had alot of luck with stradlin the feeder on one corner and keepin the hogs happy enough to were they wnt try to get into the pen...the cattle could be your main problem with this because they can still knock down the feeder...not a fix everytime but has worked for me....the only other thing you can do is move the feeder to a new location were the hogs dnt reconize it for feed...then you can put it in the middle of the pen

Not true. I build mine 32x64 feet and routinely see up to 10-15 deer in the pen at once.

Funny story, I built a 15' diameter round pen as a hog trap with 4' tall panels. 90% of the cam tracker photos are of deer that jump in to eat the bait. Never thought they would jump in a pen that small but they do.
