I'd like to start duck hunting, and I'm wondering if my shot gun is appropriate. I have a 12ga. rem. 1100 with full choke. will this work or am i gonna have to invest in a new shoty?

It will work, but be a little harder to shoot ducks that are in close, and working the decoys. But you can use it. You might think about getting a Remmington 870 pump with Rem chokes. Gives you more options.
But here lately, your gun would be great. Mostly geting pass shots, because the ducks arent exactly cooperating.
Those of you who do not stand behind our millitary, please stand in front of it!!!

I'd only recommend something with different chokes. I am not even sure if you can shoot steel shot with a full choke gun. Good luck!

You really need a gun that will shoot 3" shells...3 1/2" if hunting geese. I recommend the Browning Gold Hunter or the Winchester Super X2. I shoot a Browning and love it. My brother had a Remington 1100 and switched to the Winchester and says it's night and day. Good luck.

MOst modern steel choke tubes are OK with steel, in fact, most say "Steel OK" on them. The older fixed fulls, no, steel is not an option there.

buy another barrel with chokes,2 3/4 shells are fine,or shoot bismuth with what you got...if you shoot ducks the right way(in the deks) you dont need a 3in shell....
PULL the TRIGGER, SHOOT to KILL!!!

I'd call shooting ducks in the deks the "ideal" way. Many times shooting fly-bys that won't decoy is the only way to scratch out some meat. I shoot 3" shells for everything except early teal and occasionally use 3 1/2 shells when those suckers have no interest in my decoys and want to just buzz overhead and taunt me.

If you are just starting to hunt ducks then 3" shells are highly recommended.

Well I went with the stoeger 2000. I almost bought a browning silver hunter but the $400 price difference was just more than I could do especially this close to Christmas. I like the way it feels i'll shoot it tomorrow. I handled alot of guns today, and I think the stoegers felt as good or better than the more expensive guns.
Now I just gotta find some ducks.

Please give us a full report about your next duck hunt goes and your guns performance.
Do all you can before the hunt to try to break it in with some heavy and or hot loads. Hopefully yours will be problem free and not have to be sent back to Stoegers like a lot of other M2k owners.
Dear Lord please bullwhip me for saying this but I agree, Marcstar is in the lead. Please nobody use this as a quote!!!

I have a Stoeger 2000 and haven't had a hiccup with it. I retired my 1100 early dove season for this one. Super sweet shooting. Just make sure all the ammo you get are 1+ oz loads.

Failures to cycle has been the reason they send them in. What the cause of this is unknown by me. Treebass sent his in maybe he can tell you more. Go to shotgunworld and in the stoeger section you find lots of owners tell their story.

Benelli Nova. Hard to make a pump fail. Really smooth and reliable.

from what i read on the shotgunworld site; Stoeger was having trouble with the m2000 in earlier models, but they made some changes and the ones for sale now are much better. Benelli admits that it's return rates are currently higher than stoegers. If you have one with the red fiber-optic front sight it's one of the new ones.

took the m2000 on my first duck hunt this morning. It performed flawlessly. I shot about 20 shots, killed some ducks. I'm very happy with it. The gun that did have problems was my hunting partners 870.
