I got drawn for a gun hunt at Richland Creek WMA November 3-7. Had anyone hunted there and have any hints/suggestions/stories?

Im sure some will chime in for you but do a search on the topic. It has been discussed before on this forum more than once. I bet you could get some good info from the past threads. Good luck on your hunt.

I have not hunted there in many years but used to hunt there alot when it was a Type II area. There were some great bucks then and it is probably better now than ever. Good timing for the hunt, I am sure they will assign you a hunting compartment. Have fun, be safe, and watch for snakes. Cotton Mouth, Timber Rattlers and Copper Heads can all be found there. This year I would try to hunt close to water if available in your compartment. There used to be some sloughs as well as some huge white oak acorns on that property. Good Luck

I hunted pigs a lot there last season. Saw tons of does and a God-awful number of pigs, but I never saw any bucks. All of that is sitting on the pipeline that runs through.
I second the snake comment - saw tons of moccasins there.
I think it will be a great place for you. In your assigned area, find some game trails and find somewhere to sit up with a clear shot. I had them within 10 yards of me... got into a huffing match... pretty cool.
Best of luck (and "thanks" for taking one of the spots out there that I did not get drawn for !!!!!!),

For STORIES....keep an eye out for Sasquatch! He's chased more than one hunter out of there!

Shot this buck at Richland Creek last year during the same time frame. The bucks were already chasing does and he came a little too close. Compartment 20 Northside of the WMA

I hunted there with my Dad and brother on a youth hunt about 7 years ago, I know there are deer there and some big bucks for sure as you can see from the above picture. We didn't get into the woods to much with 3 people, but my brother killed a 300+ lb hog on the road we were hunting. I think you will have success if you get into the woods

Compartment 20 Northside of the WMA Just FYI they have closed the north unit this year, they are constructing more wetlands up there, so I'm guessing everyone will be placed in the south unit this years hunts, first segment of the archery hunt is going on as we speak.
