I'm thinking about getting a adult pellet gun. We been over run buy coons and other critters at the ranch and was going to use it to take them out. Most will be used when in the trap. But I will sit in the barn at night as well. Don't want to shoot my 22 in there cause of horses. I figure a head shot will take them out at 1200 fps. What y'all suggest? Any commits or experience?

I thought that was a must in most places. Varmints dont live if I am around. Hogs, bobcats, yotes, and coons are not safe, in fact I passed up a deer to take out a bobcat that was on the prowl to take out fawn.

Greetings, Go to www.pyramidair.com and look over their selection. Good prices and lots of reviews. I am not affiliated with them...just like their toys!

A suppressed .22 bolt gun will give you good knockdown power and quiet. In some cases it may even be cheaper than a high-end pellet gun and give you the range you need for some shots. Just a thought.

RWS are the best pellet guns made. Model 34 1200FPS with a lead pellet and very accurate. Gamo built in china RWS built in Germany.

I'm really digging benjamin's new marauder but the are pricey. A .22 cal pellet at 1000fps is sweet and accurate at 80yds.

I can also vouch for Gamo. I have the Big Cat 1200 (cheapest one I think) and it has served me well. Comes with a little 4x32 scope that works pretty well too.

I bought a Winchester air rifle at Cabela's a few weeks ago. They still have a few in the bargain cave @ the Allen store. Normally priced at $162.00, marked down to $98.00.
Comes with a pretty nice scope and sends the pellet's out with one crank at 1000FPS.
I've been having a blast with this and picking off squirrel's on our property.

I use the RWS 22cal model 48. Best damn pellet gun ive shot. Killed a coon with an ear shot yesterday. Dropped in its tracks. The down side is the cost. You can get a 22lr cheaper and the noise level is pretty high with the high powered pellet guns. Love mine..

Squirrels ruined my pecan crop this year. I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on an air rifle until I knew it would do the trick. Found a Winchester (Daisey) .177 with scope, rated @ 1000 FPS for $50 on Craigslist. Popped my first furry vermin as soon as I got home.
So, you might check Craigslist. They still allow air guns to be listed for sale.

The new Nitrogen Piston Technology by Crossman marketed under the Remington and Benjamin brands is the way to go. These new airguns are powered by a Nitrogen Piston instead of a coil spring. Several advantages here. 70% less noise and 30% more powerful than springer guns with little to no recoil like a springer which can affect accuracy. Also you can leave them cocked and loaded for extended periods unlike springers. Leaving them cocked wears out the spring quicker. Also only go with the .22 caliber. Check out my hunts on youtube at "Pellet Gun Turkey Hunting Television". Giant gobblers being taken with a pellet gun. The Benjamin NP Trail is the same gun as the Remington Nitro Piston with same scope for $100 less at Bass Pro and Sportsmans Warehouse.

Won't run away from a head shot. Bullet placement is always the key!

A good alternative to a pellet gun is CB caps from a long-barrel .22 bolt or lever rifle. It's quieter than a pellet gun. I use an old Stevens with a 22" barrel, or a Marlin 39 w/24" barrel. Also try the Aquila SSS. More FPE but also noisier - but may be acceptable. I have several stout pellet guns. I think they are marginal on an adult racoon.

I have taken a lot of small game with my high powered pellet guns. They are great fun, super accurate, and pellets are dirt cheap.

In California all small game and Turkey are legal to take with a .20 or larger size pellet gun. Has been for a decade now. There are one or two other states I believe where hunting turkey with an air rifle is also legal but not for sure which ones. Every state should legalize hunting for small game with pellet guns to increase hunting opportunities for kids and adults that love airguns. Todays airguns are much more efficient and accurate and very deadly on small game and turkey (head shots only). Texas laws are a little messed up though because you can't legally hunt any GAME animal with an airgun but you can hunt NON-GAME species with an airgun and Texas doesn't really specify the caliber required for the different size game such as squirrel vs Axis Deer.
