I have a friend who keeps telling me that 30-40 yards from a ground blind is too far to hit a deer. When i was practicing with my broadheads in my blind saturday i was dead on all the way out to 40 yards... What are yall's thoughts.

I have shot plenty of deer and pigs between 45 and 50. Maybe he doesn't practice enough

If your comfortable with it, do it. Some people are not comfortable with a 40 yard shot but if you shoot a consistent pattern at 40 you should be fine. I would not take a shot and wound a deer if I did not know I was good at that distance, don't take a chance shot.

If you are comfortable and confident at 40 then shoot out to 40. Don't let your friend tell you how to hunt. He might just be a terrible shot!

That’s the one big problem with bow hunting; everyone is an expert. I have heard some weird and seen some weird things in my 44 years in archery. If your comfortable at 40 by all means take the shot, but remember your hands are not shaking and your heart is not coming out your throat on a target. A really nice buck will at 20 yards will make your body go through some wierd changes. After all my years of bow hunting, I still get buck fever when I see the big one, when that stops it's time to quit.

And targets don't take a step or turn as you are releasing. That is a long time for an arrow to be in the air. A lot can happen. If the shot and conditions were right I could make it but I want to be 25 or less.

Right Passthru, I was going to say that, but I think I've already pounded that drum before. ...No one listens to me..

If you feel comfortable do it, if not then don't do it.

We all know today's equipment will do it. But I'm with Passthru & Bjankowski. With adrenaline and no crystal ball to tell me what the deer's gonna do upon release, I'm still an "inside 30 yds" guy.

Just because they come equiped with multi-pins doesn't mean comfort is part of it for me...20 and 30 yard pin is all I wish to use! My rifle may sling lead for 1 mile but want game at 100 yards for my preference.

Where have ya been lately, I had a guy come over the other day for me look at his bow, he was wanting to buy the pop up I'm giving to you. I had both of them in the garage and he kept pestering me for it, but I still have it for ya.

I have a 20 30 40 50 and 60yrd pin, but i also have alot of pigs to practice on and use every bit of that 60yrd pin, i rarely strech past 45 on a deer though just outa respect to the animal because alot of things can affect an arrow at 60 yrds...and i do get very excited when big boy starts walkin in haha..

I think the point is that this all depends on the shooter. This is no different than gun hunting. It all depends on your equipment and your confidence. Confidence comes with practice and experience.
I don't think anyone on here claimed to be an expert though. A guy asked for opinions and people gave them.

Depends on the animal..and what state the animal is in.
Big difference between a relaxed whitetail and a tense one...same with elk, axis, mulies..ect

I had a little pig jump straight up. Got 12" or better vertical leap. 23 yards and the arrow went right under it. Tripped me out.

If you shoot 40 plus make surw you range the right distance... some bows there is a big difference between 30-40 or 40-47.

Exactly. I even have a pin out to 50 yards, but I'd never loose an arrow at a deer at that distance (a pig, maybe). Primarily, it's for practice, and some 3D fun.

I have pins set for 20 out to 70. Now will I take a whitetail at 70 yards, NO. I don't think I would take anything other then maybe a pic that far. An Elk if the situation was right I might take a shot at 60 yards, but it is going to have to be the best situation. Whitetail and mulies I will take out to 50 if again the situation is right. I do most of my practice at 50, 60 and 70 yards though. If I can keep a tight group there, then inside 50 is nothing. I have seen 2 deer killed at 80 yards with a bow. Both shots were great shots.
