I'm just not buying the "quit rattlin cause of hogs" story. That is a major evolutionary shift. And it has occurred in the last couple of years? And how does a snake "learn to stop rattling". He saw his brother get stomped after he rattled, went back to the snake den and told the rest of the boys what went down? Then they all get together and decide the best plan is to stop making noise and the hogs won't see them anymore? Major behavioral adaptations take longer to show up than this. Unless it is an adaptation to extreme food/water availability. But a behavior shift that helps survive predators is something totally different. But then again I spent a whole deer season shopping for indian corn, so what do I know?
