So last night I'm out hunting hogs and just sitting there waiting for my feeder light to come on not really paying attention to much of anything, when I hear something strange that didn't really sound like animal but I couldn't see anything and had 6 does and a few bucks in my feeder pen so I didn't want to turn on my spotlight to check, well a few minuets go by then I hear a "Buzzing" sound, the deer bolt and someone says "What the hell do you want?" so I pop on my spot light and there sits some dbag right under my stand with a cross bow and a flashlight I yell at him and he jets out of the place. I should have just shot the S.O.B. and threw his ginger a$$ on the bone pile for the yotes. I doubt anyone would miss a scum bag like that anyway. Instead I called and let the land owner (my uncle) know that there had been someone out there, and he called the GW. IF YOU DON'T BELONG ON THE LAND STAY THE HELL OFF OF IT!!! Ok rant over

Totally agree with you. Cant stand poachers and tresspassers. Shame he didnt drop the crossbow when he left.

EastTexP....If you were hunting hogs with your rifle,perhaps you should have fired a couple of shots into the ground. And then, you would have been able to track the poachers' droppings

no pics...sadly I moved the cam to a different feeder, I thought about shooting a few into the ground but as mad as i was its best i didn't. I tracked him all the way to where he jumped the fence wasn't too hard i just followed the tracks in the sand on the trail he ran down, and was looking for that cross bow looked like it was kinda expensive. Talked to the GW about an hour ago he said he got a few calls on the guy, or sounded like the same guy last night and this morning and a deputy pulled up on a guy loading an ATV on the side of the road that matched his description just waiting on the call to go ID him if they find him, so hes not going to be an issue too much longer i don't think.

Glad you kept your cool and didn't fire. Even though he was trespassing, it would turn out bad for you. Lawyers would have a field day...and poachers are known for lying.

so after a trip to see the guy they caught turns out it wasn't him but it was a moron that shot one of those robot deer on the side of road looked kinda like him but it wasn't him he was too short.

Reminds me when I was hunting down close to the border. The landowner said, shoot anything with a backpack, the drug runners come through here, and are armed, so don't take chances.

lol well like I had said he would have ended up feeding yotes and with the hogs running around they might help out on getting rid of him wasn't too concerned about anyone finding my bullet cause if I get pass through's on hogs that 7mm 140gr nosler partition would have went right through him and kept going. no bullet + no body= no crime right?

It's not all that unbelievable. In another thread on this very forum we had a number of members that advocated being able to hunt on land that they did not have permission to hunt. It's not much a stretch of the imagination that some people will actually do it.

This guy will probably avoid your place for a while now that he's been discovered. I'd try to cut his trail to see where he came from and maybe put up some random trail cams. I be he lives very close by. Maybe one of your uncle's neighbors.

next time if it is dark and you are pig hunting, shoot the dark area under your feeder. then call 911 and them you were hunting for pigs at night, and this guy was crawling around under the feeder and you thought he was a pig. accadents happen..... when i hunt on my places i am the only one who should ever be inside my fence.... so if i am the only person that means everything else are animals.

I can't believe how many people justify shooting the guy. Yes, I hate poachers, and I wish the worst on them, but unless they are threatening my life or someone elses, there is no reason for me to end their life. Sounds like this guy turned and went elbows to ***hole and took off running, no real need to make a shot then. I agree with the other comments about setting up some remote well hidden game cams and see what you might catch again next time on camera... let the law deal with him.

Man, those poachers are pressing their luck. Wandering around in the dark on a place you're not supposed to be is a good way to get shot, just by accident alone. More so sitting under a feeder! Nobody said they have to be bright, but damn, that's a death wish!!!!

The guy was under his stand, not his feeder.
