Just got on a lease 25 mile West of Ozona in Crockett County just North of I-10. Just looking for advice in this area and what to expect deer wise. In just the couple of hours we spent at the land we seen 2 mule deer doe one with a fawn and also a few whitetail doe as well. How are the bucks in the area?

If you have any pictures of bucks from this area and wouldn't mind posting them that would be great too.

These are just East of Ozona but should be about the same quality deer where you are.

I have hundreds more pics if you want to see more. We have tons of deer. The average "trophy" on our place is in the 140 range with some in the upper 160's killed here and there.

some good looking deer you have there.

It's not how you fall, It's how you get up.

Yes, of course these were all last year. I hope the drought has not hurt them too much this year. I had a camera out from July until September 1st but when I went to check it it only worked 2 days after I put it up so I have no idea what to expect on Oct.1 this year.

What's that under the feeder with the deer?

Silver spurs and gold tequila
keep me hanging on.
Pretty girls and old cantinas
give me shelter from the storm.

Looks like a porcupine to me.

The early bird might get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

Hey ghostrider. We have 2800 acres off of Howards Draw road 15 miles West of Ozona. We are 1-3 miles South of I-10 and we could not be happier. We kill 120-130's consistently, and the occasional 140-150 is taken. TONS of deer. We have a feeder in our front yard and the deer are at it every morning and evening. We spend alot of time there feeding, setting out water totes, protein feed, etc... It is Gods country for sure !!

Yes, lots of porcupines too. I think I get as much enjoyment out of watching those as anything else. Takes them 10 minutes to climb over the feed pen...lol

I hunted about 15 miles northwest of Ozona for 12 years and our top end bucks were 140-150. Never fed an ounce of protien, just managed it with a gun. It really depends on how well the property has been managed. (We lost the lease when someone went and offered the ranch manager twice what we were paying, it still ticks me off to think about it!!!)

You will want to feed right away. We are NE of Ozona on the County line. The deer are in need of feed and water. I feed year round and have been overwhelmed. You can do some selective shooting this year.
