I hunt alone in Williamson County just north of Leander. Would like to get to know others that hunt near here and compare notes.

I hunt on family land that backs up to the government land surrounding lake Georgetown. There are tons of deer and plenty of bucks. Since 1996 my biggest is a 147" 10 point. I shot it last year 3 days before the close of season, and he was the only shooter I saw all year. This year should be great as I passed on a ton of 4.5 year olds. Is this your first year hunting the area. Quality is very spotty around here as I have buddies that hunt close by and 110" is hard to surpass at there place.

AR's have been in place for years now! There are monster bucks everywhere. I'm hunting a small place just west of Andice and we all shot 150 class animals the last three years

Nativetex, we have a ranch just north of Seward Junction where we hunt and also have our taxidermy business. Stop by during deer season when you have some time. We don't have big bruisers out there but in 2009 we took a 130 class buck and a 125 class buck off our place. They killed 140 class deer not too far around Sun City and Georgetown Lake as well as the Andice area. So the big deer are out there. It's having them come to the feeders that has been the challenge. This year could be different..........in a good way. grill

Aboud, a 147" is a great deer! Congrats. I have been hunting the same place for 16 years now. It fronts the S San Gabriel just East of US 183. Like you, tons of deer, and turkeys. Best buck was a 125" 9 point. I found one dead about 10 years ago that was a 140" 10 point. Have been managing this place all this time and have definately seen a difference. There is a narly 14 point coming to my feeder and I hope to get him. My guess would be around 130 - 140. He is running with two other bucks that are nice - 125" 10 and a 120" 8. Hope they stick around till bow season. Do you have any hogs? I have only seen one in all this time and he got carbon poisoned.

You only saw one shooter last year? Is this because of your personal requirements or the AR's? I see and pass numerous bucks every year that meet the AR's.

Mike, It sounds like we have about the same quality deer. If I get that 14 point, might have to get him mounted. He has a typical 8 frame on the left with 5 points at the G1. He has two offshoots at this G1 and one of them is about 9 - 10" long and forked. Looks almost like a second beam. The G1 itself is forked. His right side is a typical 10 with a forked G2. Have you noticed a very marked increase in the number of forked G2's the past two years? I never saw one at all until last year and now it seems almost 1/2 the bucks have them.

How about hogs? are any of you seeing any? I am not and feel real blessed.

Are any of you bow hunters? Anyone interested in meeting up sometime for breakfast, lunch, a beer, etc? Hiway cafe/Bob's bar is right down the street from me.

Nativetex,

So far we have never seen a hog or even signs of one. We also feel blessed. It is surprising as we have about 20 acres of water and several spring creeks. I did see tons of bucks last year but won't shoot unless it's a cull or 5yrs plus.
