I ran over a curb Tuesday and turned over an Igloo full of venison, ice and water in the back of by surburban. Couldn't stop right away, but did my best to dry up the mess when I got home. Now my vehicle smells to high heavens. What can I use to treat the carpet in the rear of the vehicle and eliminate the terrible smell? Any help is appreciated.

Clean the carpet & if you can, pull it back to dry. You may have to have the jute replaced that lies under the carpeting. If there's a detailing shop near you, they may have some additional suggestions as well as what the other fine folks here have to offer.
Best of luck.

Well......... I used to have a car detail shop and headliners so I would say you need to contact the nearest chemical co., I use Zep and tell them what your delima is and you'll be able to do a customer pick up or take it to a car wash, the kind where they run it through for you and they usually have a detail shop in the back most of the time. Where do you live, maybe I can suggest some place for you. Let me know, Chuck.

Pineapple juice contains a chemical/protein called " Kinase" which is an enzyme that can break down blood. I always keep a can around to get blood stains out of clothes. I would get some and pour it into an old spray bottle and test it out, leave it to soak in a bit and use a shop vac or carpet cleaner to shampoo it out. If it works on clothes I bet it will work in your vehicle, it may smell like your in the tropics for awhile though.

You need Zep Odor Destroyer. My brother used to be a sales rep for them and I got free stuff all the time. He switched jobs last year, but the Odor Destroyer I still buy from the Zep company. It is the best things for many smells and stains, not to mention dog urine and poop on carpet.

totally off topic, but in high school we were on our way back from the river and I had some chicken livers in the back seat of my truck. Well I guess I knocked them ooff the seat when I was unloading, and they spilled all under the drivers seat. Parked my truck at a buddy's, went off and did our thing for the weekend in his truck. When I got back in there was maggots EVERYWHERE, and it stunk so bad I couldn't take a girl to lunch for like 2 months.

Just kidding, pour a bottle or two of Fabreeze on the arias that were wet. Will take away the smell.

re-saturate the area w/ warm/hot water, pour in some fabreeze & use carpet cleaner & use a wet/dry vac...might have to re-saturate it a few times but it should bring up & out the smelly stuff
AND leave the windows OPEN (just enough the animals WONT get in)

After you have tried all of these other methods, wad up a lot of newspaper and place it in the vehicle. Let it sit for a day and remove, and then repeat a couple of more times. The moisture from the cleaning will be absorbed into the newspaper along with some of the smell. The newspaper will help, but you have to have it pretty well scrubbed clean first
You might also try using some of the refrigerator baking soda spread out on the area and then vacuuming it out after a day or so.
Good luck!

Wow, you guys are cool!! Had no idea I would get so much response and advice.
Thanks to everyone who answered, even the Fix Or Repair Daily bunch.
I have used some good carpet cleaner and lots of baking soda so far. The smell is almost gone at this point. Where can I get some of the Zep odor remover?
Thanks again for all the replies!!

Do you like the smell of cedar?
If you do either break off a few limbs from a cedar bush or go get some of the bedding stuff they sell for hamsters and mice.
Sprinkle some of that in there and it will go a long way to changing the smell.
Everytime I am headed to west Texas or the panhandle, I do the same thing with the first good stand of sage that I come across, it will cover up almost anything. AJMO.
