Closest would be a prostaff but would need another 30-40 bucks

What scope power range are you looking for? The 1" close-out Vortex crossfire in 6-24x50mm at SFWA is a fantastic deal for that price (and tax/shipping). I got one and I like it a lot.

I have a three of the Cabelas Pine Ridge scopes. A 4x on a 10/22, a 3x9 on a 22mag. and a 2.5x7 on an AR. I have only used them in optimal or near optimal conditions where they have been more than adequate and quite clear.
Not sure this would be my go to scope for my deer rifle...

You failed to mention WHAT KIND, CALIBER, TYPE of Weapon this would be utilized on. I wouldn't waste 18 to 100 dollars on optics for even a 100 dollar single shot 22. Just stay with the iron sights. Least expensive optics considered would run $160 +, and that would be a "on sale" price for one of my 22 Squirrel guns. Save the hundred, then when you save another hundred, then start looking. Otherwise you'ld just be throwing $100 away.

CoyoteOn2,
I don't see anywhere that the OP stated that the scope had to be new... and TonyLama did not specify (or imply) that the Prostaff could be had for $100 new. He was simply making a scope suggestion in/near the price range of a vague request. The fact is that re-sale on the Nikon Prostaff and Buckmaster lines is not that great. FWIW, I have bought TWO Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40s off of this forum in like new condition - one for $85.00 shipped and the other for $45.00 plus shipping. A few weeks ago, I bought a NIB Prostaff 4-12x40 at Gander Mountain for $129. If you look around a little bit, deals can be found - you just may not be able to cherry pick your exact criteria.
I am not a scope snob, but I agree that the Prostaff line is the bottom end of decent scopes. Not sure that I would trust them on the nastiest of magnums, but they work well for the milder-recoiling rifles. The are plenty clear; have decent light-gathering ability and very little edge distortion; and seem to hold zero very well. Anything less is just a real crap shoot. Good luck!

I agree --- like you said, everything is vague, THAT'S why I asked the question~~~ NEW? For clarification ! I'd have NO ISSUE with putting the ProStaf on the 5, knock around 22's I've got in the safe without glass, and as I said, For New, For Less than a bill, I'd jump on it. As I think others would also. If I were in the market for used, it wouldn't be a ProStaf. Also I agree that for anything with more umph than a 22, the Optic would run quite a bit more than a $100, or even 2 for that matter. Also correct, the OP never specified used or new, BUT HE DID specify, " $100 bucks or less ". So you should see why I inquired to TonyLama's post. After all, it was not an offer to sell OP a used ProStaf that TonyLama may have had laying around.

Simmons 4x10x44 "44 mag" I saw one for sale the other day for around 100 bucks. Great scope for the money, had one on a 7mag and never had a single issue with holding zero! I would buy another and not think twice about it!

I have read a few reviews on the Simmons 8 point and all were positive and this thing is cheap. Anyone have any experience with it?

I think the Vortex Viper 2-7x closeout from SFWA for $149 is a good deal for that duty, but obviously it's a lot more than you wanted to spend. At least it would last and be a decent quality piece of glass.

having been burned by a cheap scope (shook itself apart on a rifle that road in the truck alot) i have sworn off cheap optics.
spend another $75 or so bucks and buy quality
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I'd just keep my eyes open for a used nikon or older leupold. You could probably find one at some point for around $100.

If your absolute tops is $100 I can't recommend one but for $140.29 you can get a brand new pentax gameseeker ll 4-16x50 shipped to your door from SWFA. Put a 3-9x40 on the dads gun a few years ago and he loves it. I just bought 2 for my TC pro hunter barrels. Yes they can be had at opticsplanet for $139, but I'll keep my business in TX. Also there is a $20 mail in rebate, so for $120.29 you get a higher powered 50mm scope. Can't beat that to me

You're not going to find anything worthwhile or durable for a hundred bucks, especially in a variable. A fixed power K series Weaver will give you the best bang for buck.
