I wonder how many people are against "high fence" hunting have been to some type of thompson temple sheep hunt and killed some domestic ram in a 50 acre pasture? Thompson Temple has a beautiful daughter,I know that. And????????
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

So are low fences with feeders.
You're kidding yourself if you think there's a big difference. Deer don't naturally travel further than any decent-sized HF place anyway.

i dont mind highfences at all. i hunt both each year and love it. my parents own a 100 acres and its thick stuff. i would high fence it if i had the money to just to put a couple of exotics into it to watch. this whole hf and lf debate is crazy, and the people that hate hf so much have never been on one.(most of them anyway) most of you guys that bash hf have never tried it or been to one,but you know exactly how to run one and manage eveything. many that own a highfence put in double or triple the work that hunters who lease do.to each his own just go to the woods and have fun!
It's not how you fall, It's how you get up.

"have never tried it or been to one"I've been to plenty of Zoo's in my time. I especially get a kick out of the trained animal feeding times and clowns riding in circles on four wheelers. If only they had cotton candy The topic was about "DEER" herds, not exotics. I'm only against High Fences for the okey-doke facade of "deer management"

"Just curious... I've seen people put a high fence around one section before. Seems that's not a whole lot of room to grow a decent deer herd."You really should have trusted agents or legal advisors looking over you personal paperwork.

You're kidding yourself if you think there's a big difference. Deer don't naturally travel further than any decent-sized HF place anyway. There is much to be debated about those statements but the easiest way to see the total fallacy of them is to ask: "If there's no difference then why are millions of dollars spent every year building high fences?"

Four seperate reasons:
Selfishness Ranching of exotics Good Fences make good neighbors Required now by TPWL when you donate land to them

There is much to be debated about those statements but the easiest way to see the total fallacy of them is to ask: "If there's no difference then why are millions of dollars spent every year building high fences?" Because it puts the control in your hands. If you're going to spend money on protein, etc., why let the deer jump the fence and get shot by your neighbor who isn't spending a dime? Also, you can determine which traits to cull, etc. My comment was speaking to the difficulty of the hunt. If it makes you feel better that you don't have a HF to tell yourself you're a better hunter or what you're doing is more difficult, great. But hunting over a feeder on a LF ranch isn't any more difficult than doing so on a HF ranch unless the HF place has intentionally jacked the numbers way up, which the ones I've been to do not do.

"why let the deer jump the fence and get shot by your neighbor who isn't spending a dime?"#1 from above...SelfishThe whitetail is a game animal, wild and free, some want to put him on a reservation like any other native american. Why not build a cage over properties to keep the doves in? Its just as stupid. This mentality is why I pray everday for the complete collapse of society so I can thin out humans.

I dont know what he(Ol' Luckey) has to be bitter about, from some of his earlier posts he has all the cash he could need, is tax exempt, has been everywhere and seen it all is hung like a horse and has a hot wife... sounds like a good life to me
So if any of that is true he would be happy, guess its all a lie.

You're a weird and bitter person, Luchenback. X2 I'm still amused at you that think y'all are great "hunters" for being able to shoot a deer at a feeder from a blind just cause it's a LF

Who is "you".
I certainly don't think most Texas deer feeder harvest constitute "hunting".
Its about as sorrowful a situation as shooting and alcoholic when he shows up at the liquor store.
It aint the first time Ive been called weird by the delusional, unsporting, wearing the rose colored glasses.

I think a lot of why most people H. F. is because of neighbors. Yep! Lots of us have the neighbor from hell that makes us consider a HF.

You really think sitting in a blind and shooting a deer that comes to the feeder or food plot on a LF is more challenging than on a HF Yep. I have a feeder on my 375 acres and it is a helluva lot more challenging than the 4 or 5 high fences places I am familiar with where they just pick'em and pot'em. One of my friends shot 3 bucks all gross scoring over 150" in the span of 45 minutes-the last one while he was gutting the other two. LYAO all you want but the high fences are a joke in my experience. the reason its more "challenging" on your place is because you have low deeer density, not the deer being any more "wiley", like the height of a fence determines that. the reason your buddy shot 3 bucks scoring over 150 in 45 minutes is because he hunts a ranch that has a good population of them. can't shoot a 150, let alone 3 of them, if they don't exist on a property. this post reeks of jealousy.

I like free range, but we've been blessed with good neighbors for the most part. I don't think we would rule out high fencing our 2,000+/- acres if push came to shove.
