MLD tags are issued based on the size of the property + the # of deer counted during the daylight survey (don't cheat!!)
As far as bucks are concerned, the only bucks that should be harvested under MLD are spikes and 4.5+ year old bucks (do not shoot 2.5/3.5 year old bucks with branched antlers) *we try to only shoot 5.5+ year olds on our place
If you were only issued 4 buck tags, I would only shoot MATURE bucks (but this is only my opinion)
Don't know how many hunters you have per acre, but 1 hunter per 300 acres is about right, IMO

I don't understand signing on and paying for a lease where you may not even get a deer tag, much less a buck tag. I'd be infuriated. Hope you get it worked out. Yea, everyone needs a tag. Otherwise, you are just paying for someone else to hunt. I usually pass on a couple deer that would be ok to shoot based on our rules. If our tags were on a first come basis, I likely wouldn't. With the # of tags they have, season could last a week.

That's a bum deal. Do you know how many hunters are on the entire lease? If he got fewer tags than he expected it sounds like some people are due a refund.

Don't know how many hunters you have per acre, but 1 hunter per 300 acres is about right, IMO I agree totally with this. We are MLD3 also and only have 7 hunters on 3000 acres. we only take bucks at 4.5 years or older throughout the season and the recommended doe harvest in October. JMHO but first come, first serve on the mature bucks is the way to go.

It sounds like they took an east Texas hunting camp with a hunter per every 50 acres and tried to turn it into a MLD without reducing the number of guns

alright kinda figured one issue out, there are only 10 people well 11, 2 guys share a spot b/c his old lease got shut down and he is close friends with all the guys on the lease so we let him on for the year but we are guessing we got 10 b/c of the number of hunters we got
this lease isn’t our big trophy lease its close to all of us and we can just get out of town on weekends and do some hunting and catch up with each other and that’s why we like this place not saying we have never taken anything there but we go their knowing just what it is and just like to be out in the woods but with the tags we got it would be no problem to shoot the does in one sitting we see so many I just want somewhere to go all season
ill try and figure out how many acres our lease is but i dont know as of now i am not the president of our lease im just trying to help him out and we are telling everyone they can only shoot “trophy” bucks not just legal bucks we are not even going to let them know its an option
and who ever is doing the first come first serve idea are you saing before they go to their stands that grabe a tag and go or are you saying when you shoot one you get the tag it worries me to do that b/c of the small I mean small chance more than 4 people shoot something I was thinking of doing it by week such as these hunter have this weekend till next and so on what do you think of that?

First come first serve = first one to shoot a buck gets the tag. Otherwise, Johnny might see the buck of a lifetime and have to pass because he doesn't have a tag.
