I have an opportunity to hunt a friend's agricultural ranch near Nevada. Does anyone know much about deer hunting in this area? I am curious as to the trophy potential for bucks.

Had a friend shoot a 170 there last year. Said the deer quality was great. Good luck.

There are some huge bucks around Nevada, MO and Ft. Scott, KS. A co-worker killed a 187 about 30 miles SW of Nevada last year.

MO always produces great bucks. This is closer to KS so there are great deer there. Do not pass the opportunity up to go on up and hunt. Another good thing about MO is that it is not a draw state so you can show up, pay $225 for your license and then go hunt.

I am originally from Missouri and have done a lot of hunting there. Missouri hunting is far different than Texas hunting (i.e. baiting deer is illegal and nobody has high fences).

As for the deer, Missouri has a good mix of southern and northern whitetails (you will probably mostly be seeing the smaller bodied southern deer around Nevada). The differences in body sizes of the northern vs. southern deer make it tricky to score a deer on the hoof. I killed one in northern Missouri (mostly northern whitetails up there), we had a couple year's worth of pictures of him and knew he was mature and were guessing he was mid 160's. It turns out it was a small bodied southern deer that scored in the upper 140s. His small body size made his antlers look much bigger than they really were. I will never complain about taking a mature buck, but man..deceiving.

Goose hunted near there several years ago and the outfitter also did deer hunts and showed us some pics of some good 160-170" deer. And yes, MO has a lot of high fences too...

You dont need a high fence game ranch to kill monster whitetail in Missouri! The hunitng is great and its even better since we started the point rule. Ive lived in Missouri 20+ years and my family owns a deer farm in Missouri and I know of one high fence game ranch, just saying. There is also public hunting ground every 20 Miles.
