There are many good ones, you need a tough bullet with nice controlled expansion. 130/140/150gr Barnes TSX, Nosler Partition etc. Any 130/140/150gr soft point in .270 will take a deer, but a lot of them destroy meat in the process.
Upon us all, upon us all, a little rain must fall

55.0 grains of IMR4350, a magnum primer of your choice with Win brass and a 130 grain SP or SST, has always shot very well in a 270. It runs about 3100 fps, depending on your barrel. This is a max load, so as always, work up to it.

The late, great Jack O'Connor's favorite load in his favorite cartridge, the .270, was 60-62 grs H4831 behind a fast-opening 130 bullet. He got around 3100 fps and killed everything in North America with it, including several grizzlies.
This recipe will work just as well for us, now 60 years later.

My first reloading was done with .270win so I know what your going to go through, and heres what I have learned after killing 40+ deer with a .270win ALL HAND LOADS
Most likely either IMR4350 or Reloader 22 will give you the performance you want...trust me I tried ALOT of powders and over the years I have tried alot of bullets to in .270win.
I first loaded 130gr sierra game kings because they were cheap and I saw them loaded in federal premiums, some people love them to no end....but I had several bad experiences with the game kings, even though it was the bullet I used to kill my first deer.
Through all my tests of loads and bullets I have found the 2 that work best for me are...
140gr Nosler accubond with reloader 22powder - 1 full grain under maximum, which in my opinion is the most versital load of all time in the .270win.
If your looking to go a cheaper rought then I use the same powder charge with a 140gr Hornady BTSP.
One last word of advice-People will argue with bullet weights for the .270 from 130-150gr
I use 140 because I hunt in areas where deer often weigh 200+lbs I have NEVER had a 140gr accubond fail to penetrate a whitetail of any size, or hog for that matter no matter what the angle of the shot and they leave great exit wounds.
However I have had the cup and core style bullets fail to penetrate, sometimes it didnt matter because the deer fell dead...but one time I lost the biggest deer of my life when one didnt.

if you lost the deer, how do you know what the bullet performance was?

if you lost the deer, how do you know what the bullet performance was? Well if the deer is dead then the bullet didnt fail right!....That was my way of thinking until I lost that buck Had several failures before I lost that deer and didnt recognize what was going on because the previous deer were dying Buck #1 shot it in the spine and fell dead- I hit it 1" below the top of its back and it didnt exit only enough damage to break the spine. BUT IT FELL DEAD alls well that ends well right! Looking back with only 2-3" of skin bone to penetrate that bullet DAMN SURE SHOULD HAVE EXITED! deer#2 Doe shot at 100yds that ran and fell in the creek and drowned, when gutting it found the lungs full of water meaning it died from drowning in the creek deer 3# MASSIVE 12 point that was shot and when the bullet hit the shoulder there was a cloud of hair and his front hit the ground and he pushed himself then stood up at the tree line. Gathering up my things thinking this deer wont go far only to hear dogs barking as they chase my buck and found blood for 300yds and found a big pool of blood and 2 empty beer cans where it fell dead by the road and 2 okies loaded it up and took it home. deer 4 Doe same thing as the the buck before her but the bullet shattered on the shoulder blade and crippled her enough for shot #2 post mortum revealed a shattered shoulder blade covered in lead splatter with 3" circle of hair blown out on the contact point. This was with 130gr. seierra game kings loaded to do not exceed load. That buck was the only one I ever lost and with the several instances of bullet failure and and having seen where the wound was before he hit the tree line....im calling it bullet failure. Even with the amount of bright red blood that I found and lots of it I think it was simply a flesh wound that bled but not enough to cause system shut down for a LONG time Havent used sierras since and havent lost a deer since, infact the time I had a bullet come close to doing any thing like that was with a big buck I shot in brownwood Hes the one I hit with the 140gr interlock at 50yds the bullet didnt exit but it penetrated the shoulder and wrecked the vitals deer fell dead with out an exit wound ...but that can be expected form a cup and core bullet at 50yds with max velocity....but not a splatter
