After several attempts to learn how to shoot this thing I'm wondering if my instability may be due to the stock being a bit too short for my wingspan. I'm 6' and change with arms to match and I'm a southpaw. If I get a good cheek-weld, sight alignment, and sight picture it feels like my left arm is just too far back and doesn't help with stability. Could it be that it's a type of stock that I'm not used to? An AR stock has the rear grip that positions your hand/wrist in a different way and you can really pull against it.
Are there longer wooden stocks to be had anywhere?

Has someone else shot your rifle with better results?
There's a number of things that can contribute to the accuracy of an M1.

Have someone else shoot it. That has some time behind a stock of a M1A,M14,or a Garand. Mine shoots great!

I agree with the above, but I'm about 6" and have longer than average arms and I can shoot my Garand ok although it is a lil short.

Dang. Good idea to let someone else shoot it. Wish I'd thought of that. Do any of you let others shoulder and/or fire your weapons? Doesn't it feel kind of creepy? I never did because I didn't want to take the chance of anyone changing my dope.
Thank you for all the replies.

Just tell them no touchy the adjustments then you'll be G2G. Another note is to use a large peice of paper cause they may line up behind the sights a lil bit diffrent than you do.

I share my guns with my friends and family. Its more fun shooting with others, as long as you trust them to be safe and to treat the equipment right. They know not to screw my stuff up, and that i wont screw up theirs.
