Storms are all missing us. The first cool front is dry. NOAA says the drought goes on through the first part of next year.None of the oaks that still have leaves have any acorns. Persimmons are drying up and have no fruit. Does not look good.

Heck just think about how many oak trees will not survive this spell. Said on the news the other night the worst year during the 50's drought only had 17" of rain, San Antonio has only had 7" so far so this will def. be the worst drought in history. Here in Boerne we have had more like 2-3 inches. Amazing and who really knows, this thing could last as long as it wants, in which case we will def. be out of water.

I have done a lot of research on this subject and this is what I have found. I am not an expert but I do like to study the history of our weather patterns.

Once a high pressure zone gets established like the one over Texas, it is really hard to break. The Sun heats up the ground and then it creates a high pressure zone that pushes everything away. This year is similar to what happened in 1954 when it pushed all of the Hurricanes that originated in the South Atlantic up the Eastern Sea board.

The only chance we have for good rain from this hurricane season is from a storm that originates in the West side of our Gulf. If you look at the paths of the storms in 1954, you can see how the high pressure zone over Texas pushed all of the Hurricanes up the Eastern Sea Board, just like it is happening this year.

However, check out the paths of the few storms that originated in the Gulf in 1954. I saw a meteorologist on TV that said we could get some rain from a storm that originates in the gulf.

It may be wishful thinking but at least there is a chance.

God Bless Texas!!! angel

From what I heard on the DFW news, we have already broke the record for drought. The economic loses are upwards of 8 billion!

My neighbor and I each have 15.5 acres, we have lost about 30 Oak trees, most of the other trees are ones we planted for deer (Red cedar and several varieties of Oaks) have died even with being watered.

Last year we had bumper crops of acorns and ended up turning off the feeders by the end of November because the corn was piling up. This year the deer are waiting by the "back door" for the soup kitchen to open.

Agriculture in Texas will be set back and if you raise cattle, you may want to spend an extra day at church every month.

I also believe we are going to have another La Nina winter (meaning a dry one). Now, if we were to have an El Nino winter, it would be a wet one!! Lord, are you listening?? Please give us all some rain! Please!!!

Oh, for the record I would take rain over a few degrees in temperature drop....

Have found 6 dead deer in the last few weeks. Not on mine, but on places I have leased to run stock on. One of the places does a little feeding all year and the other not at all until deer season.

It's ugly alright. We are fortunate we have 3 tanks with water still on our place but the feed isn't there. We just got on there and we have feeders up and throwing corn. Just got our pens up last weekend and this weekend I will get protein going as well. Can't afford to fatten them up with the high feed costs but hopefully we can keep them going. Hopefully when the rains come it will be gradual and soaking.

I work hard, drink a little and hunt when I can.

That area is pretty bad but the area along 479 north of Harper back towards Mason is really bad if not worse than HWY 41 and the area north of Brady was really bad 6 weeks ago and I can only imagine what it looks like now.

Went to our place in Montague for the first time since April - 3 out of 5 water sources dried up. Large fish/duck pond is almost dried up. I should have ate the 5 lb bass I caught there in March. Only good source is a well pumped tank. Saw 6 deer at it at 6 pm. I have never seen deer go to water anywhere on the ranch since there are normally many sources. Found a dead calf.

We are on the line.
It has rained just under an inch last month two times. Geo-surveyors have cut sendero's across our pastures and put alot of browse on the ground. Still dead but every little bit helps. We have fawns and the deer look ok, still very huntable but I don't have any hunts booked and can't keep feeding for nothing.

Been praying alot lately.

In Montague County our last rain of any real substance was 10/1/10. We got 2.1 inches then. This is 3 out of 4 years of drought. And, 4 out or 4 years of intense heat. The only thing that saved us last year was some summer rains.

I took a couple of Ibex to the Y.O. back in April and it already looked bad then I can only imagine now.

Yep, and the prickly pears are shriveling up and the mesquites have already dropped at least half their leaves and all of their beans.

But it does look like we'll have a bumper crop of tumbleweeds this year.

Cedars, oaks, dying or dead at our place.Looks bad in some areas. The eastern facing canyons look better than the western facing, but the whole place just looks rough.Lots of dozing next spring.

Put out my first roll of hay yesterday. If it doesn't rain and I have to keep putting it out, I will run out in December..Got a total of 50 head of cattle on over a 1000 acres and their still losing weight. 300lbs of cubes every 5 days with protein licks out and hay and I can't keep up.. realmad
