i was asked if you can use a standard NV Monocular and a 0 Power Red Dot Scope together. Answer is kinda.

Watch Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0AveHNRsWA

The other issue I thought about was these hand held monoculars are probably NOT designed to handle rifle recoil.

Easiest thing to do is contact Ident Marking. They are in Rockwall. You can take your gun there and they will show you different combinations that work with your weapon. That way you get what you want.

I checked out the Ident Marking website... Seems that they cover any setup you can think of with NV...

They have the NV monoculars and clip on NV that goes onto a scope. Either way you'll still need a IR illuminator if you don't want to worry about moon light, but it looks like they sell those also. Just doesn't show any products under the IR link.

Check it out and looks like they'll be able to give you some prices depending what you want.

We just launched our new e-commerce site NVGstore.com. The PVS-24 and CNVD-LR are great options for clip on night vision systems mounted in a front of a magnified rifle scope.

@SATX Agreed!

@big-tex: Right there with ya, However I will say that if you are looking to make long range shots at night, thermal is the way to go.

When it comes to night vision and thermal you truly get what you pay for.. Buy cheap.. Buy twice. Do your research, get the real facts and find a quality product that is within your budget. Although if your budget is under 2k, maybe NV just isn't an option at the moment. If you have any further questions or want to get a second opinion on some info you read or were given, feel free to PM me or give us a call at 877-NITEHOG. At the least we can provide you with the real facts and not some of the other BS that is spread when it comes to NV.

NITEHOG will be at the 2012 NRA Exhibit in St. Louis April 13-15. Booth #2836.

are the atn nightscopes at cabelas around 500 bucks really that bad? out side of range why are they such a bad option? are the cheaper nv scopes vs 2k+ scopes the same as tasco vs leupold? they both work? i amgetting really interested in saving so i am trying to do the research. is the trash talk on atn lower models justified? please explain.

@coonsaw Try the atn's for yourself and see how you like it. When I tried one it was awkwardly top heavy and just not what I was looking for, and the quality didn't seem to be rugged. I like to spot and stalk and that wasn't happening with that setup.

Like I said get it at cabelas and if you don't like it take it back...

you get what you pay for.
Gen 1 is a place to start but you get what you pay for.
Do A L OT of research before buying anything.
My only advice is to ask the right questions to people who actually own the UNIT you want.
Know what your hunting conditions are going to be get the best scope you can afford. Saving up 9 months to a year to get the best you can will be worth it in the end.

"you get what you pay for."

what zen said... go the cheap route, get cheap quality...

save and do research on what your needs are, make a better decision on which nv device you buy and you'll be happy with your purchase... coming here and asking/reading is a good start!

good luck!

I know a lot of people are raving about pulsar n550.
I just found main person responsible for importing this product as well some other products (he also brings Yukon line) to US from LITHUANIA (former Russian republic) I will call him directly and since I also do speak fairly well in Russian I will ask him some very tech questions that Sellmark was not able to answer. I will get info directly from horses mouth.
Guys I hunt hogs I don't see spending 5K for NV I rather pay off my car.

While you are talking to him, get us a group buy price.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I bought the atn ps22 because liked the idea of mounting it in front of my acog. took it out on a night with a full moon using a ir iluminator and couldnt see anything it was the biggest piece of junk i have seen called night vision even the soviet gen 1 stuff is better. thankfully i only had it a few days and could return it.

I still not sure what im going to run but it will probably be something dedicated to the rifle, it really does seem you get what you payfor with nv.

In summary, you get what you pay for. If you're just shooting at paper targets at night - Gen 1 or sub Gen 2 is fine. However, if you're shooting at something else (predators, varmints, zombies, etc) then you need something that allows the shooter to definitively distinguish what're you're shooting at.

The most reasonable approach is evaluate your budget, how often you're going to shoot at night, the rifle you're mounting on and what your expectation is on life span. Typical expected usable life is 1 to 2 years of active use for non-military grade equipment sold in the US commercial market. Good mil-grade equipment manufactured in a DO-rated facility for the commercial market typically will have a minimum life span of 7-10 years. My philosophy is buy once, use often vs. buy often use minimally...in other words, if I'm going out several times a year to shoot at night, I want my equipment to work everytime, without fail...I want to trust my equipment. I don't shoot a $350 rifle - I'm shooting a $2000 rifle for that same reason.

Safety is also a consideration - if the buyer is comfortable with putting an optic that is made with lower grade components next to their eye - then more power to them. If you've only got a $1500 budget and that's all you can do - then go for something that's got a good warranty and good reputation for service after the sale - and there ain't many out there. Its too easy for the seller to blame the operator for damaging the night vision tube or using on a "unapproved gun." Also, make sure your budget includes a good IR light, because you'll need it to see anything at night when there's less than a full moon in a clear sky.

Something else to evaluate is the environment where you plan on using the NVG. If its in an open desert - Gen 1 or Gen 2 might be able to allow you distinguish enough contract between your target and the background. If there are any trees in the scene and your target is in the shadow of those trees - you're going to have to illuminate the target with an IR light.

One last note - there are guys out there that have built up entire cottage industries on fixing Gen 2 stuff that people spent $1000 - $2000 on and then realized it didn't perform as promised. These guys will rip out all the cheap plastic "innard" that hold the optics and/or tube in-place with well-designed, precision manufactured metal components. So - if you have to resort to that, you've essentially bought the same "good deal" scope twice.

Why pay twice and end up paying the same amount of money for something that you could have bought once and have it on your rifle when you want to shoot instead at the repair shop or in your junk drawer because it just plain don't work. Some guys get lucky and get something that holds up - but if I'm going spend the money, I want something that I can trust and no will work when I need it to.

big-tex,

Not sure what you mean about the LE or Military access?

Here are quite a few NV products with 1x magnification:

Nitehog PVS-14

SNVG Gen II PVS-7 <-(Gen 3 PVS-7B also available)

Nitehog PVS-15

SNVG Mini-Binocular <-(Very cool modular set up)

M2124 (PVS-24) CNVD

L-3 CNVD-LR

Nitehog WARTHOG CNVD

What kind of day optic are you currently running on your rifle?

Is that a magnifier on the front of the scope?

No, but we do have them for this model. They just screw right on the front and add an additional 1.7X.

What ever price range your looking for in nightvision, come to us first. I've used a variety of night vision and thermal devices both in and out of the military. We have some units that are much less then you would think and are perfectly suitible for hunting and military use. Most of our brands have a 3 year tube warranty and a lifetime everything else warranty. Best warranty in the business!

Here is an example of the Pulsar Sentinel Gen 2+ riflescope taken with a Iphone. No moon was present when this was taken and this unit has a 700 yard detection rating with just a 1/4 moon. These units are thousands less than others and have the great warranty mentioned above. Also all units can be serviced in Mansfield TX.

This will give you a idea of the quality, keep in mind that a Iphone camera does not really let you see how clear and bright these are to the human eye.
