Would love some feedback on whether this buck looks like he has passed his prime? Facial features, diminished antlers and gnarled tine leads me to think he's post-maturity...

Looks like a young deer to me. Looks like he hit something and thats why his antlers are messed up.

(HE IS NOT a 5+ year old deer)

Very young buck. Got any more pics of him? That looks like velvet antler damage to me and not injury related IMO.

I would agree on the deer being a young buck, but I have a hard time judging the age in the summer months. They just don't look the same IMO.

Don't think the leg wound has any bearing on the horns.

Good luck

Yeh, I have a hard time aging them in the summer too. Drought effects and only one pic to go by doesn't make it any easier. Hoping that he's young and will develop some more atypical antler characteristics with a few more years.

If I'm not hunting something I must be dead.

Good observation BOBO,I think he's young too. That doesn't look like Nolan cty.Sandyland,Cross-timbers?The reason I ask is because of 13" rule.I'm not sure he would pass muster in an AR county.

Young buck. Long skinny neck and snout are apparent.

He is definitley a young buck you can tell by his facial features , compare it to the deer in the background his nose is a dead give away its possible this is his second set of antlers have spent the last few years helping in management programs in South Texas , harvesting and aging animals I agree he is probably 2 to 2.5 , most abnormalties in antler growth are caused by traumatic injury of some type I doubt that a barbwire cut would cause this based on what I've been taught

I love the Great State of Texas and the opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, "All things are possible through Him that strengthens me!"
