I woke up @ 4am this morning drove to Sherman wa-lmart and picked me up a hunting license. I told them I wanted it for dove, then I bought dove pouch, a chai,r and 4 boxes of shells.

Around 9am after not seeing jack a game warden (federal) approaches and asks to see our Hunters Lic, Shells, IDs and Checks to make sure we have plugs in our shotguns. This was at Hagerman FYI.


Come to find out when I bought my Hunters Lic even though I told them I wanted it just for dove, they added NO stamps to my license. After 45 min of holding us. I was given $175 fine and told I was lucky I did not shoot any birds or they would of hauled me in and took my shotgun (50 year old shotgun belonged to my grandfather)

Here is the good part. Wal-mart gave me $175 cash money after I showed them my fine and my missing stamp. They also gave me the stamp for free.

Id say,you got pretty lucky,but its a shame it happened in the first place.My advise would be to buy specialty items in specialty stores.

There is a stamp for doves? are you talking about HIP certified?

Nope, I had the HIP cert. I'm talking about a migratory bird stamp.

Do you not know what you are going to spend on your license before going in? I would have known right away when I was charged $7 less.

Buying from Walmart is taking your chances and I think its "stand up" of them to pay you for the fine.

Hate that it happened but maybe a lesson for someone else.

Like I said , I bought a few other items as well. I was not planing on hunting birds this year, but got a call from an old friend so I went to the only place that was open the next morning to buy what was required by the state to hunt.

Thats why i always just buy the Super Combo. It has everything except the Federal Duck Stamp.

Two years ago I decided to buy the Lifetime License just so I wouldn't have to keep up with all of the stamps and increased license costs. With a Super Combo now being $68 and likely increasing a little every two or three years, figured the $1,000 Lifetime would pay for itself pretty quickly.

Wal-Mart screwed up but you have to give them credit for making it right. Not many places would do that.

Dang I can't believe Wal-Mart acutually took care of it.I think you got pretty lucky that most public land hunting in Texas sucks. It could have been a lot worse.

I guess thats why I buy mine at Academy... they print it and ask you to check the information and then pay!
