I'm about to go home pack my stuff and head down to the coast this afternoon. Hopefully next week I'll be able to report that I killed a duck or goose finally this season. Not sure what the deal is...the ducks have just not stopped at all in this area. Had a few friends have limited success around here but that's about it. I'm hoping by next week things will change around here.

Anyway I'm hopeful that I'll be able to post a good report and some pictures...maybe even get on that tournament scoreboard!

Hopefully this colder air has pushed some fresh birds down.

I did see a few more yesterday, but not nearly the amount I thought this last cold front would have brought in.

Have faith Marcstar, the season is still young. Good luck this weekend.

Good luck markstar, I was out this morning on one of those lakes Guy named. Only got one redhead in an area I should have been able to pick up a limit of at least trash ducks. I was a little disapointed with the lack of birds with this front too. Though uneventful, it was a peaceful morning today. With the mild weather maybe they are just not here yet. Tons of ducks in Oklahoma last week, but I think a lot of ducks have blown through to the Coast already too.

Marc, I don't know what happened. The skies down were black with ducks the past two weeks, but this mornin they were GONE. It still isn't really cold yet (lows in mid to high 40's). Maybe next week it'll be back to normal.

Hey Marcstar Wal here. Was down at the coast this weekend and saw a lots and lots of ducks. The birds in my area are just not decoying at all. They are decoy flaring. We managed to scratch out a limit but had to stay at it.

Saturday was warm and we didnt have much wind at all. We saw some teal right before legal shoot but didnt see them again. We ended up with 9 birds between three of us. 2 specks, one drake Mottle Duck, a gadwall, and 5 spoonies hens lol! Considering the weather it was a decent hunt for 3 people. We had some really good shooting and only had one flight where we dropped just one duck but should have had at least two.

Ironicly I was telling the other guys that since I have only hunted once this season and was skunked I would not mind shooting spoonies even...well it turned out it was a spoonie hole I guess.

Here is a couple pics of the spread...this is just the front...about half that much on the back.

Pic from the blind:

We knew the weather was going to change Sunday and it was suppose to rain and we were very hopeful of a great hunt. Wow...we got what we hoped for. It rained like crazy all morning...I was completely soaked since I didnt have a waterproof coat to go on over my lite wader pullover. The pullover is waterproof on top but nothing was stopping water from leaking down the back of my waders...the good thing was it wasnt too cold so I was ok...and with all the birds I didnt have time to worry about it.

I really wish I could have taken more pictures during the hunt but I didnt bring the camera to the blind since it was raining...turned out to be a good thing...even having a waterproof blind back it was raining so much that just from opening it up to grab shells everthing pretty much got wet. Shell boxes pretty much melted...but the shells still worked just fine.

We ended up getting a 4 man limit on Ducks...hell we could have had 8 people and had a 8 man limit even. We had a pretty good mix of ducks from green wings (which we dropped 5 in one flight..some good shooting), ring neck, pintails, mallard hen, drake Mottle Duck and few spoonies we got early. I think that was it on ducks...it's hard to remember and I can't tell from my own pic. We also had 6 snows and one really nice speck.

Here is one with me and Dustin. By the way Dustin is a bad [censored] shot...he's won a bunch of skeet shooting tournanments in his day.

Looks like a great place to hunt! That is a big spread, congrats! But I would leave the spoonies out of the pics next time.

I'm not too proud to shoot a spoonie when nothing else is flying. Come December when the pickings are better I'll hopefully start laying off. Smiling mallards are fun to shoot though.

Funny story. We had some just land about 60 yards out. They were out of range and just sitting there for like 10 minutes. Nothing was flying so I was like maybe I should shoot one and see if they get up and come over here.

I pop in a 2 3/4" #2 reload I made. Pull the trigger and the shot goes 10 feet. Pretty sure I forgot to put powder in it. So I had put a stick down my barrel to get the wad out. Spoonies are laughing at me at this point...I. I get the wad out and put in another reload and boom...I could see the one I was aiming at got peppered but it didnt kill her. But what do you know we start calling and she comes over the blind and I fold her.

Yeah it poured...but it was awesome. As I said I got pretty wet since I didnt have an overcoat kind of think...but it was fun. The only think I worried about was keeping my shells dry. Also after a hunt like that if your shells do get wet you'd worry about the shot in them getting rusty and sticking together...which could cause some damaged. But they'd really have to get dunked for that to happen.

One other thing if it could rain like that one every hunting day I would be fine with that. It keeps a lot of the fake duck hunters and fancy gun owners at home.

Marc, that looks like Palcios/Bay city area. Good job we are over populated by the spoonies down here. They are fun to shoot at when there isnt much else.

Those of you who do not stand behind our millitary, please stand in front of it!!!

How do you know the Mottled was a drake? From what I've read the sexes are alike.

I don't but I was hunting with a few guys that are pretty much pros...they told me they were drakes.
