Today I purchased a Remington 700 in .223 from a local gun trader. He called the gun a Sendero, however, the gun doesnt say Sendero anywhere on it. I didnt really care since I really like the rifle and loved the trigger job that was done on it so I bought it. The gun looks like a Sendero, and has the stainless fluted barrel, HS percision stock. I have added some pictures of the markings on the action and barrel. I dont know much about Senderos, just that they have and awesome reputation. Any information you guys may be able to give would greatly be appreciated. Like I said I really liked the rifle and being a Sendero would just be a plus. Thanks for your help.

They never made a Sendero in a 223 that I am aware of. I have a 300RUM Sendero and it dont say Sendero on it either and I dont think any of them ever did except maybe the Sendero II.

Honestly that gun is a Sendero though just with a different name. I think that one was called a VSF.

I have a 25-06 Sendero SF II and it doesnt have "Sendero" stamped on the barrel either, but it does say "Sendero" on the box. And as JCB and BIL stated, that is a VSF (Varmint Stainless Fluted). Nice find. up

Some of the Varmint SF had an HS Precision stock others did not. To my knowledge all Senderos do have the HS Precision stock. So, you essentially have a Sendero, whether it is labeled as such or not. Senders are one of the better Remington's built, in large part due to that stock. My only suggestion would be having the action glass bedded by a "competent" gunsmith. I have all my rifles (that I intend to keep) bedded. It really makes a difference. Should be a nice rifle. Let us know how she shoots.

If that is a heavy barrel, I think you might a vssf varmint synthetic stainless fluted. I have a vssf ll that looks pretty similar except mine has black painted flutes and green webbing on the stock.

you have a vssf. Not all senderos say sendero. The early model of the sendero is a long action in a hs precision stock heavy barrel. the short action is a vs, vssf and the difference in a sendero and a sendero 11 is the palm swell on the stock. They did away with the old senderos and the vs or vssf in the HS precision stock and came out with the varmint syn in a tupperware stock and a sendero 11 in a hs with a palm swell. All have heavy barrels. All are made off the 700 action. If it has a hs long action, no palm swell it is a sendero. If it is a long action w/ palm swell-sendero 11. If it is short action it is a vs and vssf. Vssf stands for varmint special stainless fluted. In my opinion you have the best one. That gun runs between 800-950 used depending on the shape. A new sendero 11 runs about 1100 new. the plain sendero blued --750-900. Thats my 2 cents And I'm sticking with it. I have the vs in 223, 22-250, vssf in 220 swift and a sendero in the 270. all will shoot a 3 shot group touching or inside a dime at a hundred yards, they will shoot. a bad day of shooting is a quarter. ( the vsf is a 700 short action like yours but blued).

Sendero = Long action only, I seem to recall. Please correct me if I am wrong.

You are correct, Same stock short action instead of long action and no longer make it in long or short actions. They added palm swell and call it a sendero 11 the short action went to a tupper ware wide forearm. Different finish and I call it a screw up on Remingtons part. They say they sale more with the palm swell.
