Hunting is expensive!

made alot of "investements" this year.

New bow, arrows, release, new shotgun, case of shells (to start with) for dove season, booked the motel for sept 1st-4th, bought hunting licenses today for me and the wife, plus two chairs and a new camo shirt each........Good lord, its not even deer season yet!

I'm on a sandwhich diet for the next Month!

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

My wife picks me up stuff throughout the year for hunting season - shirts, caps, gloves, shells, catridges, thermacell replacements and such. A little at a time. I have a few things I need to get, but very little.

Thing is, she gives me the reciept and says, "I used your card." grin

Yep, but there are worse things I could spend money on.

I have a check-in account just for hunting. Every week a set mount is transfered into it. This over lease fees and anything else hunting related. Keep me on burger, and doesn't hurt as much.

We need a post that ask the question, "things we can really do without" and I'll bet that you'll find that hunting really isn't all that expensive.

To me corn is way to high, and it's more of a pacifier to the hunter. Learn to use it at a minimum and don't get hung up stuffing those feeders to the brim and you can save a lot just on feed.

Stop with the ATV's and use your truck, and where you can't just walk.

Camo clothing used to be jeans and a plaid flannel shirt and that seemed to work pretty well for many years.

Food plots during dry years is throwing your money down the drain also.

Fancy blinds, feeders, gadgets, it's all fun but not really necessary.

Hunting is expensive, but only if you want it to be!

I let my wife do all the shooting so expense is not a problem. I just go along to guide, and grunt. grin

This is why I'm doing a DYI in Colorado for mule deer. Cheaper than a lease, but I still have to pay gas there and back (luckily its split 3-ways!) But its probably no more gas than if I drove from Houston to Central TX three times in one season. All I need is camping gear, which I already have.

It is expensive but so is everything else.
Life is to short to put off what you enjoy.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

It is like anything else. I figured out what I was paying a pound for venison one time and the best I could figure was about $70 a pound. I bet it is probably more.

Fishing? forget about it. I have a $22,000 boat sitting idle that we use a few times a year. All kinds of rods and reels and all the other stuff related to fishing.

Is it worth it? I think so, not because of all the money you will be saving on the groceries, Lord, we could be eating prime rib and King Crab legs everynight for what we have invested in hunting and fishing.

However, we have had some really good times and have a ton of good memories. If I had it to do all over again, I would probably do the samething.

Ya think? Figure corn, protien, batteries, gas, lease price, shells, it adds up over the year.

Yep they don't sell good times and you can't buy memories with all the gold in the world. It's worth it.

I picked a lease this year for the first time, and I must say that the setup cost is expensive. I've shopped for used feeders, purchased new camo, game cameras and now I'm looking for blinds or tripods. Add into this the cost of corn and it can be an expensive hobby, but I feel it's worth every penny I've spent.
