Does anyone know when the Federal 100 point duck scoring system began? Seems like it ended around 1982, any know either one for sure? I recently picked up a Lone Star point system poster from 1971-72 season and was curious if it may be one of the first ones?
Thanks Triple R

Experimental testing of this system started in '68 in Colorado and spread it's way into most Central Flyway states by 1970. I started duck hunting on freshwater ponds off the intracoastal back in '79 at the age of 13. Lead was the shot de' jour and pinnies were 10 purnts apiece. 2.75" #6's made their heads slap the back of their necks every time. And we shot teal with #8 short brass. Gawd those were the days.

I'm not old enough (born in 84) to have ever hunted lead for waterfowl but a buddy of mine and his father went to Mexico a few years back. He said it's just night and day different. 2 3/4 lead with a full choke would reach out there leaps and bounds better than 3 1/2 steel. Just pounds 'em....I'm sure it would feel like cheating these days! Especially since I don't know anything but steel...

The first time I ever duck hunted back in the late 70's the 100 point system was in effect. The first duck I shot was a mallard hen. Duck hunt over
There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

That season was my frosh year in college at Sipville. I remember not even wanting to go back home to Galveson to hunt cuz they raised the pinner value to 35 from 10. That was also the year that I found out what reservoirs and rivers were all about and threw rocks at the misquito infested, hot humid marsh First day in flooded green timba that season with green parachutin in and I swore off the coast for good

I remember being 12 years old and not being able to stop myself when those big flocks of redheads cam roaring in. My dad would fuss at me every time, but I didn't care. 1 duck or 10, it was still hunting!

I saw somewhere that someone was making reproductions of those. We had them all over our garage as a kid.

I sure miss those lead days, the points sucked, cause I had to try and remember what they were worth, but, I was learning then
