Lots of deer around there, many small parcels that run close to the Lampasas river.Lots of pressure.larger places I would expect larger deer.We drive down 281 often, from Lampasas to Adamsville is dead deer city. Not unusual to see 10-15 dead on the road.I've never hunted there.Good luck.
Life is too short, as is. Don't chance it. Don't text and drive.

It all depends on management. They can't get TROPHY status if they all get shot at 2.5 years old. Let your bucks get old, get your buck-doe ratio down to 1:1, and take out your inferior deer. JMO

I agree with the management part but unable to take out the inferior deer with the 13inch rule. There are only 4 hunters on a 400acre lease just north of Lampasas and there plenty of deer but on trail cameras and just visual have seen anything even 13inches. I would be happy to see a 140 class there.

We are in NW Burnet just across the line. We have been managing it for about 15 years. We have take a couple of mid 130s. My favorite one was taken last year. If I could post some picks I would. My son saw one last year that he swears was bigger than any taken but everyone knows about ground shrinkage. The problem with our place is 8s are real prevalent and we have a tall narrow gene or a wide flat gene. On 400 acres with hunting pressure around you you might be lucky to see a 120 class. We are pretty isolated because we are at the end of the road at the river.

I think we have the same gene, most are tall and skinny or wide and short. Most are all 8 to 10 points. We don't have a lot of hunting pressure but we are only 1/2 mile from a main road and nearby exotic ranch. How could we improve on the deer without high fence?

I hunted 1 mile outside of Adamsville for 2 years right on the river. That area has really good genetics they deer just need the age to go along with it. We killed some respectable deer there but nothing over 140". Always had some deer with split brows, split tines, and kickers runing around. Even had one freak deer that had a huge drop tine lookin thing coming out of his base and droping down the side of his face. Also filmed one of the biggest bucks I have ever had the chance to film there during bow season. He was just a main frame 8 point but had probably 4" kickers off both G-2's and probably had zero deductions on his score.
I would go back to that area in a heart beat if I could find a good size place and a reasonable price.

Split brows, tines, and kickers just like I said we had on our place. Very nice bucks.

There are some good deer in the area, especially west of lampasas. I shot a 14 pt on the Smith ranch which is on the the Colorado River. My uncle shot a 170 class deer on a ranch between Lampasas and Lometa. Several others of that class have been killed there as well. Thjese ranches are lowfenced as well.

Well this is all good news. For some reason it seems there are bigger deer just west of where I hunt, which is off 581 but as it goes "it's always greener on the other side." I'm sure there are large mature deer there I just need to hunt and scout a little harder I guess.

Alot of big deer in the city limits. AR have really helped the bucks get some age, but still way too many doe. Be sure you use all your antlerless tags. Good luck!

Yes there are good deer, and the area is capable of producing trophies, and with that said, it always comes down to the landowners and neighbors working together and being on the same page.

They been on AR restrictions for about ten years now. The county is loaded with 160", seven year old bucks. I cant wait for Mills county to be the same way since we only been on the program for three.

Hunted Adamsville area late 80s and early 90s, best buck I saw was 12pt that was close to 150, I did take one 8pt that was old that scored 128, teeth were warn to gumline. Got him on the river basically in Adamsville. Those were low fence no protein deer. Get the age on them and some good groceries and they can be impressive.
Good luck this year, I did enjoy hunting that area. Still hunt some north of you in Hamilton County
