Anyone know of anyone around San Antonio who contracts to track wounded deer using dogs? How much they charge?

I've only needed once (last year) in 19 years, but don't want to get caught again with out any other resources than my own senses.

BTW, Roy Hindes is the "premier" tracker, in south TX. Then again you get what you pay for

Thanks for the info 7mag. I've made a short list but would appreciate any other info that may be available.

Without a doubt Roy and his dogs are something else.

Robbie Hurt out of Dilley is also very, very good. If you cannot find his number call Dilley Feed & Grain and ask for Kenny Pullin, he'll be glad to give you his number.

You can also look up Jimmy Rutledge from Carrizo Springs. He is also the technical guidance biologist for South Texas.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Hindes is well respected, more so by TTH and it's following. His dad Hindes Senior was a hell of a tracker, so I have heard

The Roy Hindes I know lives in Hindes Texas on Hwy97 between Charlotte and Fowlerton. He charges $350 to find a deer and won't argue if you are happy and nice enough to throw in some extra. I had Roy come out this weekend when a hunter I was guiding shot a buck and broke his front leg.

As soon as I saw the leg swinging we pulled off the deer and called Roy. He arrived with two of his dogs a couple of hours later. Within ten minutes the dogs had the buck bayed in a thorny thicket. We slipped in quietly and Roy cranked off a round with his Ruger .357. The deer headed straight toward us but the dogs caught him again. A finishing shot put the buck down for good. Here is a picture of Roy, the dogs, and the buck.

Pay attention to the reaction of the deer. If you follow the track and you do not find the deer within a hundred yards you might as well call for the dogs. Don't stomp all around and destroy the scent trail or spook the deer into the next county.
