I just got access to a new place to hunt this year and I'm going to put up a feeder. My hope is that I can bring in a couple hogs. I've never bought a feeder and I don't know where to start. I want (at least I think I do) a broadcast feeder for corn. It seems like a winch up model would be a good idea.

What brands should I look for or stay away from for that matter?

Other than Academy, Bass Pro and Cabelas, is there anywhere else to get one in DFW?

Most feeders they sell there are poor choices.

Monarch makes a decent feeder. It's better than some of the cheapos they sell at cabelas and the like.

+1 on Monarch, not the perfect feeder because for the most part they are outdoor mechanical mechanisms that are prone to attacks by COONS!!! But quite possibly some of the best customer service available and they are local.

Thanks for the recommendations. I didn't realize Monarch is located in Arlington.

Just picked up a Tws old-timer, so far so good,

Really like my lamco timed trough feeders though.

I've used the same 2 Moultrie hanging feeders for 5 years. This season will make it 6 years. And, I've only replaced the batteries in each of them one time. I use the rechargeable battery with a solar panel. The first 2 battery's lasted 3 years each. They both went out in the same month. The feeders were 50 bucks each, the moultrie rechargeable batteries cost 10 bucks each, and the solar panels were 25 bucks. We also hooked up the wireless remotes so we can make it sling corn whenever we want.

Hit up Mr Redneck here on THF. He makes a very nice crank up feeder for a VERY reasonable price.

This is what I was thinking myself, I am sure you will get a feeder that will last alot longer and will cost the same or less. Pluss you get the satisfaction of supporting american small business up

Look on craigs list in your area. You can usually find a higher quality / custom product at a cheaper price :-).

Go on craigslist for the DFW area. You can find all the feeder mentioned and some that are made locally that have not been talked about. You can also find some used ones that will save you a good bit of cash. Just make sure you t-post the legs or the hogs will often bring them down. Good luck

Monarch is simply a great feeder. I recently bought some Boss Buck protein feeders and they are very easy to assemble. They come with a spin adapter that can replace the protein tubes. An economical option is the Moultrie EZ fill with built in varmit guard - I've got one that has held up and has been very reliable.

4 pieces of Hog fence..8 t-post and just dump your corn in it...and if possible ($$$) get a small solar power electric fence to put around the bottom of the fence...

Works best..
