My brother is coming here for the week of thanksgiving and we are going on a deer hunt... I searched the TPWD website and I can't find a NON resident 3 or 5 day permit.. looks like you have to buy the whole thing.. $315 bucks! ouch!
Isn't there a 2 or 5 day or something like that for non residents?

Yea I've had to buy the big one for 30 yrs now, believe it was $75 back then. Hats off to TPWD though, I can buy the $7 youth license for the kids, 3 of the big ones would really hurt.

$315 is a heck of a deal for what it allows you to hunt. Add it up in other states and Tx. quickly shows that it is the most non-resident friendly state in this region IMO. Also, if your brother has kids they can hunt for $7. Other states nearby laugh at that notion. Some do at least offer a discount like CO which is only $100 for deer and antelope.. will the license 157 not work? It says it is for Non-resident 5 day special hunting... Not for deer.

Colorado's nonresident youth tag is reasonable, but check out Nebraska. Last year youth deer tags were $5.00, and they got 2 deer! I believe they are doing the same this year.
Thanks for the adult tag info. I'll have to buy one myself.

Bought one for my Brother a few years ago. Well worth it! Got checked by the Game Warden, shared a few stories, and the hunt was fantastic!

Isn't there a 2 or 5 day or something like that for non residents? Nope. Been there, done that.... long before I moved here. The three-day IS good for hogs and exotics, but not whitetails or mulies. I have a pal coming in lat Oct. and we're going to get him the three-day and shoot Axis does since he's only interested in meat.

Sorry guys, but I'm still a little confused. I'm from the "Four Corners" area of New Mexico and I know the "Non-resident General Hunting License" costs $315, and an "Archery Hunt Stamp" costs an additional $7... BUT, is there an additional cost for the "tags"??? Also, according to the TPWD info that I looked up on their website states the "bag limit" is 5 whitetail deer, no more than 2 can be bucks. Is this true??? If it is, is there an additional cost, costs, to harvest 5 whitetails per tag??? I am going to be in Knox County from October 3rd to November 5th, by myself, alone, not knowing where to go, where I CAN AND CANNOT bowhunt whitetail, turkey, and hogs. HEP ME, HEP ME PLEASE!!... lol...

I have hunted as a non resident in Texas for over 20 years. When you buy the non resident license for 315.00 it has 5 whitetail tags, 4 turkey tags and 2 mule deer tags on it. There is no extra charge for the tags. You must pay the additional 7. if you want to archery hunt and also 7. if you want to hunt turkeys. No license is necessary to hunt hogs since they are not a game animal and there is no closed season on hogs. They are considered a nuisance. Hopefully this helps. If I got something wrong, hopefully someone will correct it.

$315 is a heck of a deal for what it allows you to hunt. TxTechsan, I respectfully disagree. How many times have you had folks come in from out of town for just the weekend? It doesn’t make sense to not offer a single day license for someone that may not be back the rest of the season. You have to wonder, how many folks just hunt on private and just for go the license because the price is so high and a single day license isn’t offered? I bet its high. Now offer a single day license for $50 or $75, and I bet most folks would go ahead and pick up to not have to worry about what would happen should they get caught.

I get what you are saying about the one and done hunters and it makes sense. I was really referring to the overall value you get for the $315 NR license (5WT, 2MD, 4 Turkeys, and can hunt small game year round and 90 or more days to hunt deer with any weapon. Well 60 or more for gun unless you are on MLD) when compared to other states as a non-resident hunter. I apply in several states each year for deer, elk, Antelope. My NM MD tag this year cost about $300. Thats for 1 fork antlered deer Muzzleloader only and I have 1 week to hunt. My point was you really get a lot of bang for your buck with the Tx. license. Oklahoma is now close to Tx in number of tags etc with their archery license. You can kill up to 6 deer with that for around $300 but it's archery only. If you want to hunt with a rifle or muzzleloader though its another $300 for each tag and I think that gets you 2 deer only. A lot of other states charge per tag and you get 1 animal with that license/tag. I do understand where your coming from though. I save $$ by taking my non-resident nephews and friends kids hunting for $7.
