Exactly, but no loaded guns in camp and no "Sighting in at Midnight" either, fools should have sighted their gun in BEFORE coming to the ranch or a couple weeks prior.

We sit around the campfire and tell lies and partake of the beverage. Nobody gets really polluted, but the lies get louder as the night goes on. I rarely hunt mornings since the last few deer I've killed came from the midday sit. Drink, sleep in, hunt, repeat.

I wish I could get on the 3rd kind of lease in south Texas, but dont have enough people to commit to it and have the money. So I hunt 30 minutes from my house at my uncles and go home every night. I mow in the summer to pay for my duck and deer hunting. But probally not as fun.

Man some of you act like you're running a day care.

At the place I usually hunt it's too much of a PITA to bring any beer out to the stand so I don't. However at the place I hog hunt there's a cooler stuffed under the platform in the jeep. I guess I'm one of those rare people that don't get gun safety amnesia while having a beer.

X2

i don't understand leases that make everyone lock up there guns before all the alcohol comes out. I've never been to a ranch or camp where a gun was brought into the camp loaded or anyone had gotten stupid with a gun after they had been drinking.

gun is unloaded, put in the truck, and stays there until we go out the next morning.....pretty much day one stuff

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I usually put my gun in the box stand when I arrive in camp and don't take it out of there until I leave. If guns are brought into the camp house they are with open bolts to show they are unloaded.

I can almost guarantee we have the best deer camp in the state. Every saturday night the tarleton university kids that live on the place have a party and they treat us "old guys" like royality. Usually have a couple of kegs and 15-20 college girls running around. It can get real interesting late at night. The house thay live in is on the oppposite side of the 2600 acrea so if we get tired of it we just get on the 4 wheelers and ride over to the quiet end of the place to our camp. Sometimes those 4 wheeler rides back thru the creek can be kinda hair raising at 3am.

I don't forget gun safety after a beer but since my wifes dad was killed in a hunting accident its easier just not to drink at the lease.

Kind of like smoking cigs... May kill may not, but wait until three friends get lung cancer all in the same month, kind of makes you think maybe it just not worth the chance

Exactly. Over the years, we've had guys on the lease who liked to nurse their beers while doing a little midday road hunting. How can you say that drinking and driving is dangerous, but drinking and driving with a loaded .270 is not? They were asked to leave.....

But the worst are the dove hunts where the field is surrounded by idiots drinking beer from coolers while they're shooting. The only ones out of danger are the doves.....

To each his own, but at our place beer and dove hunting go together like peas and carrots. Nothing better than sitting in the field or at the tank with a cold beer, Dave South broadcasting Aggie football on the radio and birds overhead.

If im paying todays going rate for good leases...i cant see a sole telling me i cant drink if i want to while there. just dont seem right to me, u pay for the right to have a good time within certain common sense type boundaries and that should be good enough. i cant even see hunting w a group of guys who are hard line against having a beer in the woods...that kind of mentality just sucks the fun and life right out of huntin.

Case in point why I'll never get on a lease.

I agree. Big reason I'll never get on a lease is because I work for a boss all during the week and the last thing I want is some prick thinking he has to babysit me when they really have no authority. If you're such a weak puss that you can't sit still somewhere, have a couple beers, and remain lucid enough to hunt then you really have no business with a gun sober.
