Need some help! Just found out that me and my husband our expecting out first child next April and was wondering if I should hunt!! What is ya’lls experience in pregnant women hunting? I’ve googled and asked, it’s partial. Some say yes its fine some say no its too loud and the guns kick will affect the baby. Well I am only almost 5 weeks pregnant and I am NOT about to miss out on deer and dove season.
Anyone been through this with ya’lls wives?

Thanks!

Congrats on the new addition!!

Can't imagine it would be anymore adverse than other outdoors activies. Hunt on!

First of all congrats to the both of you. Second, I think this is the first time I have seen anything related to this topic ever posted on a forum. I am sure you would be just fine hunting. Just ask you doctor and you will be good to go.

If some animals are good at hunting and others are suitable for hunting, then the Gods must clearly smile on hunting.

Unless you are placing the buttstock over the uterine fundus in the later stages, I can't see how recoil would affect the fetus. As long as your pregnancy is proceeding well and you can maintain normal activity levels, should be no problem.

You can always consult your OB-GYN on activity levels, lifting, etc.

Don't see any reason why you couldn't. Check with the doc first though. Congrats on the new edition!

The only consideration I could be concerned about would be the sound. If babies in the womb can hear voices and music, a gun blast will defiantly elicit a response. Since sound travels faster and with greater amplitude in water..... you get the point.

Check with the OB, you'll probably get the conservative answer of
"I wouldn't" but that maybe the CYA answer.

Good luck and congrat!

Congrat's to both of you. I hunted/shot firearms thru my 7th month. Only reason I stopped at 8 months, was because my equilibrium was off so bad, I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. grin

Double check with your OBGYN. As long as you and baby are both healthy there should be no issues.

My wife's doctor said "no gun noise" after she hit five months. Said he was not concerned about recoil but that noise was the issue. I would check with your doctor. Our son was born in early April, she did go dove hunting but skipped deer hunting.

Congrats to you and your husband. It does not make a difference. While my wife was pregnant with our daughter (3 years old now) my wife would come on the starting line with me while i was driving our NHRA Drag Car that is very loud and would always be at the racetrack during the entire pregnancy. Our daughter has always had perfect hearing and absolutely loves the racetrack, when she was an infant and we would go to the track, the noise was a familiar noise to her and she never cried until we left and the noise was not there anymore. Good luck during your pregnancy and this hunting season. By the way, try to be nice to your husband, the pregnancy will stress him out just as much as it will you.

Congratulations; you should be fine if you avoid extremes and check with doctor to make sure you do not have any conditions for elevated-risk pregnancy that would be cause for concern. Maybe lay-off the 300winMag, 10guage, and 44mag in the last few months, if you're worried smile.
Use common sense to minimize lead exposure during pregnancy and early child years - nothing fanatical needed, just use common sense.
Finally, don't forget to talk to the baby, often. Their brains and intelligence are forming way before their birth time, so start teaching in-utero !

Congratulations to you both. Sounds like a good excuse to shoot anything you want and have him load it or haul it off. I'd suggest he give you back rubs and foot massages while your hunting to relieve the stress too. Just act like a guy would and milk it for all it's worth. If it were up to the men to have children, the world would not have a population problem.

Congrats, I would just ask your doctor, but I don't think it would matter much, just use a .243! And drink even more water!

Congrats to you! As it was said before, I don't see how it would be a problem but def check with your doc first. I've known lots of women that worked on the ranch and rode and roped right up until they went into labor. It never affected the baby at all. I say have at it!

...and make sure you take lots of pics so you can show your new little one his/her "first" hunt. up

consult an obgyn.. main concern (dove hunting) will be getting through first tri w/o being too awful far away from your doc or good hopsitals.

my wife hunted while pregnant with our youngest. He had a May due date. Don't remember if she shot anything, but I do know I wouldn't have let her help load it or clean it.

congrats to you both, am no doctor but unless they have other worrries i don,t see were a light kicking 20 gauge would do any damage in dove season. as for deer a single shot from a 243 or something in that. ranges as said i may leave the 7mags and 47/70,s at home this year wish both of you a good hunting season and a very healthy new baby in the spring, remember they are a gift from god

NRA all the way god guns and guts made us free , i want all three

Congratulations......

There was a lady that gave birth in the March after the season. She dropped a 10pt in November (while pregnant) from a tripod stand.

You may want to stick with box blinds, but hunt on......

Can't give direct advice on the forum....but if my patient asked if she could go dove hunting, then I would tell her yes. I would warn her about prolonged sitting during deer season. I would explain to her that pregnant women are at increased risk of developing blood clots, so she should get up and walk every hour or so while deer hunting.

That aim in life is highest which requires the highest and finest discipline.
