hey guess i was wondering if anyone has any tips or homemade mixture that they use for scent elimination there has to be something besides these 15 dollar a bottle stuff my grandfather said they used to wash there clothes in baking soda just a thought anyone got anything.

Here is something I had to do last year. I wear rubber boots and try not to wear them anywhere except on the hunting property, the rest of the time they are bagged.
I was hunting this one stand in Kansas that had been pressured a little too much and the doe would come out and hit my trail and go on alert. Must have stepped in something somewhere else that was foreign to this property. I would put walmart sacks over my feet when walking into my tree stand. Totally worked, never had another deer pick me off. A quick fix until I could scrub my boots down and descent them.

The guy I hunt with up in Ks, makes his own stuff. Where I hunt, there are a lot of cedar. He takes the green cedar needles and those little blue berries and boils it in water. Then he strains it into a spray bottle. It has the color of pee but smells just like cedar. I tried out for him last year and it worked. On one day, I rattled in a doe, and she did a complete 360 around the tree I was in and never knew I was there. In fact, I counted 6 times that a deer got downwind of me and never had any reaction of me being there.

I don't know which is cooler, the homemade scent spray or the fact that you rattled in a doe...

Not sure of any homemade stuff but I use and swear by Dead Down Wind. Along with my scent blocker suit. I like ot give myself the biggest advantage that I can in the woods.

I'd say it is all a bunch of BS. No way any of it eliminates scent. There are little pieces of your body, skin cells hair, breath, sweat that are continulay falling off of your body the only way to eliminate your scent is to not be there.

I never use scent eliminators and have had very little trouble with deer scenting me, even sitting in a pop up 10-15 yards from a feeder with 10 deer at it and I walked to the feeder before I got in the blind. Scent blocker is a sales pitch.

I don't wear scent blocker but I swear by the sprays and cover scents. I can tell the difference, when mature animals are around. Just because you have 10 deer sitting in front of you, doesn't mean they don't smell you they are just too young to be that weary.

I totally believe that animals can smell you. I am in the same boat, I need some kind of scent reducer/ elminator. My FIL taught me to take some pine needles, bunch them up and twist them, and then rub them all over you. Seems to work some. My biggest killer is sweating in the early season. Im going to try the boiling method. Seems like it might work.

The odor eliminators do work. I do know this from experience and the fact that I own an odor elimination product I have done a tremendous amount of work and studies in this area. I was a K9 handler for 16 years and have studied the ofactory senses of the K9 extensively. I have beaten the k9, the wild hog, the deer, the impala, the cape buffalo, and the Elephant with my odor elimination product, fortunately for us no other odor elimination product can state what we can, nor have they even attempted what we have accomplished.

Some of the problems that come from odor elimination is user error. In this I mean that when a person used a spray on odor elimination product they simply spray a few areas of the item to be used and then head off to the stand leaving several areas still untreated. Not to say this is what anyone here is doing but with our product it is layed out how to properly use it step by step and when used correctly as stated you will not get busted.

We Tested it from 2006 to 2008 before we went to the public with it and then we handed out over 100 samples to folks to use and abuse. The only bad review we recieved back was about a build up of residue after about 10 applications on clothing with out washing them. This was a simple fix.. Wash the clothes and re-apply.

Do all odor elimination products work ? Yes they do but some for longer than others. Should a hunter use and take advantage of all that he has at his disposal in the attempt to stay odor free yes they should. Heck we spend 100's if not 1000's on leases, weapons, arrows, ammo, and other nessasary items to fullfil our desire to be in the outdoors and our odor elimination should be no different.

Always remember the animal has the ability to discriminate odors, in this I mean when a deer or hog or what ever you are hunting is down wind of you it will detect you, cedar, skunk, fox, racoon, doe urine, and ect.. and all its life it has been trained by other animals that the human odor is one to fear and it will run away. No different than the drug runners using coffee, mustard, wax, and other stuff to mask the odor of dope. The K9 has been trained to find and alert on the dope odor and can discriminate between the other odors. So the K9 smells coffee and he smells dope and he has been trained to alert on the dope so it does.

Same goes for the animals we hunt they can discriminate odors seperately, so they will smell the skunk, the racoon, the fox, ect and you and they do not like humans so off they will go alerting the others where we are...

I keep my hunting clothing in bags with cedar chips/blocks. sometimes I'll smoke them with cedar/juniper limbs. works for me. only time i get busted for scent is smoking in the stand when there is no wind...

They may not have had big horns... or any horns for that matter but several sure were mature. Shot the biggest buck of my life at approximately 30 yards dead down wind of me on a hotter than heck texas afternoon and it took me about 5 min to calm myself down enough to shoot him. He didnt score alot, but aged 5.5 to 6.5 by teeth, and all that was done with zero cover scent or scent eliminator. Cover scents I would buy may help, no such thing as scent eliminator.

BioExtreme will eliminate human odor as well as other odors on contact. So yes there is such things as odor eliminators. Do they last forever no! but then what is made to last forever! But there is such things as odor eliminators I promise.

I do have a question though.. Just how hot was it ? This a true question as extreme heat has a lot to do with with odor's and an animals ability to detect them.

I do my best to limit foreign odors from my body and my hunting clothes and gear, but unless you're encased in something that says NASA on it, you will be leaking scent.

google Field and Stream home made scent killer. It uses peroxide etc in the mix. The reviews are good or better then the so called commercial stuff, and 100 times cheaper. If you find a product called White Lighting.............get a wiff of it. It smells, well like dirt and seems to work very well for a commercial type scent killer. I would rather invest in a 10 dollar bottle of scent killer then 250 on a scent suit, imo

Well you better drink enough of it to kill you and rot away, becasue as soon as you let out your first breath of air it has stoped working! And the second one more skin cell or hair falls off it has stoped again. We created odor, it may cove the scent of what it contacts, but it dont take it away. JMHO You would "believe" in scent elimination, you sell it...

probably mid to uper 80's, not HOT, but warmer than you would want in deer season.

I don't believe you can hide from it. Maybe mask a scent with a more deirable scent. Its hot here. We sweat, especially in bow season.

You cant hide your scent on your breath, hair, junk, butt, pits, etc

Gimmicks

Worse than gimmicks, It's all designed to eliminate the odor of money from hunters wallets.

The best scent control products available are free and are found on the property you hunt.

Ok Im gonna drop a deuce in a 5 gallon bucket and let you spray it with your spray and then leave it next to your bed.. let me know if you can smell it in the morning!

redchevy - you have obviously failed to keep current on the evolving science and the advancements in odor elimination. To each his own and best of luck this hunting season without odor elimination. However, regardless of the company making the product - the need and their ability to eliminate human odor is well proven. Different products do it in different ways with different formulations.

Really? Because every test I have seen or heard of that wasnt set up by the scent elimination companies has faild.

Buy it if you want, not my money though. You cant eliminate the odor of something that makes odor unless you get rid of it.

The only thing I think is obviouse is I dont buy into the fact that scent elimination works

I currently buy all the scent away/cover crap. Before this got so commercialized my grandfather used to use apples and rotten apple cores. When he filled the feeder he always would throw around some apple cores as well as just away from his stand. When he hunted he kept a few in his pockets and would place them around his stand and wipe them onto his clothes. He killed a lot of nice deer.

Sounds like the cover scent/odor eliminators work fine for those who have a stake in their success. If you hunt the wind then your success goes up no matter what you use to eliminate odor. You will never fool 100% the animals 100% of the time no matter what you do.
