In the same boat with you bud. My hunting buddy guides hunts and I only get to hunt with him when he doesn't have clients. I hunted the first time last year with him. Duck hunted maybe 3 times the entire season. I learned a lot but not in the ways i'd be hunting on my own(he has a nice boat, dog, lots of equipment ect)and I would/will be hunting/hiking public land.
Last year I learned that a facemask makes a big difference and the later in the season the worse the birds are about comitting to your spread due to the fact that by the time they make it to texas they have been shot at and seen dang near every spread known to man. Duck hunting is the most addicting hunting I have ever done. I grew up bowhunting. But I didn't pick my bow up till the end of the season...the most important thing I learned last year was that your going to be wet, miserable, cold, your legs are going to be tired, and everything will go wrong. BUT YOU WILL LOVE IT. My first real hunt we bent the axle on the boat trailer on the side of the ramp and had to drag the trailer home doing 35 mph. Took us almost 4 hours to get home. But we had a great trip! Good luck it's a blast!

Are you going to be hunting down in nac or up in north Texas? If you're going to be in nac shoot me a pm and I will try to set you in the right direction, going to be tough down there this year if they don't get some rain!
