Here a short video of me calling with a RNT original. I know I still need plenty of work, but was wondering what you guys thought about it.

Not bad, I think your cadence is off though. If you were trying to different types of calls ( come back, contended hen, attention, hail ) the cadence for each is a little different.. The chatter sounds really good though man and as far as just the sound of the quacks go I think it sounds just fine.

Thanks. I'm definitely going to practice a lot more before the season. I wasn't really trying to build a cadence or anything just calling. When I'm out in the field I'll hit the feed a few times and quack a few.

Great start bud. You're on the right track, record yourself and play back while comparing to live ducks or a calling CD you have.
Get on CallingDucks.com, they've got a ton of good videos and instructional stuff.
If you put some time into it you'll be surprised how much you may improve before the season.

I'm going to record another video soon but outside this time. The upstairs living room is pretty empty so it echoes. I'm hoping to compete soon so plenty of practice is a must.

Don, not bad at all... I agree with what the one guy said, the cadence sounded off when you did that string of notes. Practice like you would do in the field...no sense in sounding off practicing, as you will take that to the field. As for the feed call, mix it up a little, you had several good notes, but mix them together a little, the slow cluckin' sounds good. When you picked it up a little it sounded a bit off, but that might just be the way the recorder picked it up? I don't know. Wish you had brought your calls to BPS, so I coulda heard ya' in person. Like others said, keep recording yourself, You are doing fantastic... Last note, you will be harder on yourself than anyone else!! You can tell by the replies, only one moron said you sounded bad! Lake - Thanks I'll keep recording and watching to make corrections as I go. Feather - There will be more to come. Thanks Whiskey - I thought about bringing it but decided not to because I wasn't planning on staying as long as I did. I posted the video to gain positive feed back and advice so anything negative or helpless will just be ignored. Everyone started from the bottom and worked their way up at one point. You may get a few phone calls for help just a heads up.. Four - You can count on me busting butt till the season starts! CPO - Thanks buddy!

At no point in my reply did I say anywhere that he sounded good, great, or did it sound right!? But I will say this, I have known Don now going on over 2 years. When he didn't know which end of the call to blow through. Even then I would "NEVER" tell him he sounded bad, not good, or sounded like Sheat! But I would try and explain to him what to try and do to make it sound better. I give prop's to him for having the balls to post up a video on the internet to have guys give him their opinion. He sounds better than 90% of the guys on public, and most will agree with me on that point. The only way he is going to get better is with constructive critisism, not blank statements of "you sound like Sheat" Don, keep it up, and don't hesitate to holler at me or Kelvin for any pointers! J.J.

J.J. ... You must be the moron if you thought that sounded good.... Ducky... If you want nothing but positive feedback, call your mother. If you want the truth then post the videos on a public forum. Like everyone else said the feeding wasn't unbearable, its the attempted greeting call or plead or hail or whatever combo you tried to do. I couldn't tell but it wasn't good. Need to just slow things down and practice basics and fundamentals. Listen ti cd's in your car. Rnt, zink, just about anybody makes a instructional cd. Learn the basics and practice them and master them then you might get somewhere. If you're looking for people to pat you on the back and tell you that you sound lovely then call j.j. He seems to have a hug for you. Good luck. Hope you improve. I want to hear you call.......... Give that boy a break I don't see you putting videos up trying to help your fellow hunters out.

Don't hold your breath cpo.you aint ready for this jelly. Ducky style is gonna be ok everybody. He asked what we thought about it so I wrote what I thought. If it hurt his/yall's/ who evers feelings then I'm sorry ya'll probably need to quit being so sensitive. The swamp, the lake, the contest stage whereever is no place for whiners. Take your criticism and keep going. No one is being sensitive. Just letting you know what we think. Oh and people who are as dedicated as me, featherduster and JJ would not brag about how good we call. Thats not what the art of waterfowling is about, its about camaraderie and positive feedback. Grow up.

You need to quit making videos and go learn from that guy that's making the instructional videos. Learn something there. Yeah I didn't think you were going to post a video. That just goes to show you ain't about nothiing.

So just positive feedback only? I guess the only positive things I can think of is its not me in the video, the video is only a minute long, and that yall are all gonna group hug at jj's next event right? That's good happy thoughts right there!

Sensitive? Really? If you just look at the thread your the only actual "negative" response. There's always more than one way to say something but I honestly think you choose to be blunt and negative. It's people like you that make this world suck. Maybe you just weren't raised any better, I'll keep you in my prayers.

I practice calling while Im driving. While Im mowing the yard....etc. But remember improper practice is worse than no practice. If you practice doing it wrong then it will be harder to un-learn the bad habits.
As far as applequacks goes.........you are a barney!!!! My mother taught me along time ago that if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all.
