ABILENE, Texas -- The Texas Big Game Awards (TBGA) is hosting the Trans Pecos, Cross Timbers and Panhandle regional awards ceremony in Abilene for the fifth consecutive year, August 6. “The TBGA generates an economic impact of $97,000, bringing in 500 attendees. We are glad to support this event and are pleased with the growth over the past four years – growing from one region to hosting three,” stated Debi Schultz, sports sales director for the Abilene Convention and Visitors Bureau. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the TBGA Sportsman’s Celebration for these three regions will also take place on Saturdayat the Abilene Civic Center.

“This TBGA Sportsman’s Celebration will be very unique, as this show will be an opportunity for landowners and hunters from across three regions to be recognized and awarded for the top big game taken in different counties,” explained David Brimager, Texas Wildlife Association’s (TWA) vice president of Hunting Heritage. “With the help and support of our co-sponsors, the TWA and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), we are able to continue to recognize the contribution these private landowners, land managers and responsible adult and youth hunters make to managing and conserving wildlife and wildlife habitat on Texas’ private lands.”

Yep, they came off our place. However, the high fence has allowed them to age. Our neighbors would have shot them when they were 3.5.

Here is the buck I shot 2 years ago. It Is the biggest buck we have ever shot off our place. He grossed 169". It has only taken 14 years to produce these type of deer with our native genetics

We have about 18 acres that we plant and we usually have protein out. However, with this economy and lack of rain, we didn't plant and have only put out 20 bags or so of protein. Surprisingly from what I've seen so far, the deer look the same without the protein and food plots.

You plant maize, milo, haygrazer, wheat? I would imagine you are close to the Lake Leon water stream or they would be hurting.

Really wish I could go but have a business conflict this weekend. Got two hunters representing our ranch this year. Mark and Clint respectively below:

Is clint going to be there? He hunted with me prior to hunting your place.

As far a water goes, the Leon River is almost dry. We don't have any irrigation on our plots. We usually plant the norm. Peas in the summer and wheat, oats, rye, turnips, rape and winter peas in the fall. Our ranch is extremely dry but by keeping the deer at or below the carrying capacity helps

Attended the region 5, 6 & 7 banquet in college station last weekend and had an awesome time. Lots of great mounts, people and the bbq was pretty good also. Have fun at your banquet.

I spoke with him this A.M. We will meet up out there. Tried to get him to stay at the ranch for some hog hunting, but he had other plans. Sure am glad they moved it indoors.

Tye,
Looking forward to meeting up with you and Troy at the awards ceremony. If I hadn't already made plans, I would have liked to met up with you guys at the ranch and done some hog hunting. If you need some help killing some hogs, I would be more than glad to come out there any other weekend!

I know, was just giving you a hard time. I'm sitting in the blind where you killed your buck right now. Trail cameras showed about 10 pigs hitting this feeder. The AR is loaded, just waiting on light and pigs to show. I think I just heard some squealing off in the distance. Keeping my fingers crossed.

It was pretty warm yesterday afternoon. I saw 6 bucks, one doe and 1 fawn. I just heard squealing again. Woo hoo
