I usually see snakes all over the ranch, but this year, I've seen more in Jan than any other time. I usually see between 15-25 a year and have only seen 1 and that was in April,,Well except for the 3 I saw in Jan. I guess the drought is getting to them as well..

You can sell them at rattlesnakes roundups by the pound if you have a nongame permit. Also to eat them

I hunt down in Duval County. What's crazy is everywhere you go on the ranch there are TONS of mice/rats/quail/rabbits running around but I have yet to see the first rattlesnake. I've been walking that place for years now & found some big snake sheds but the only snake I've seen is a big Blue Indigo. With all of the "snake food" around I know there's plenty of them out there, just surprised I haven't seen one yet. Last lease that I was on in Duval we saw plenty rattlers? Well it's the ones that you don't see that get you I guess lol!

If you plan to catch rattlers you will need a noncomercial non game collectors permit which is usually about $25. If you plan to sell them then you will need a dealers non game collector permit which runs around $200. If you keep less then nine of any specie of non game, which rattlers fall under, then you do not need a non game collectors permit. Remember that is just for keeping them not catching them. Anytime you actively catch them a permit is required.

The severe last winter killed a bunch of them in their dens. It was too cold for too long.

good luck with those snakes

A hunt based on only trophies being taken falls far short of what the ultimate goal should be,time to commune with your inner soul as you share the outdoors with the birds, animals, and fish that live there. -Fred Bear

Still no answer as to why?

Asator, I tell you why: it is a major kick in the rear to go and catch live rattlers. We've been doing it for 40 years and it is a thrill every time we go. You just got to know what you are doing and be safe.
