I have recently purchased a new AR and I want to put a holographic sight on it but i'm not sure which one to go with?? I'm on a tight budget but I want to stay away from the junk. With all of the different brands out their (Eotech, Aimpoint, TroGlow, & ect.) what would be a good starter sight? I dont need anything to fancy just something reliable. I would even buy something used if i new what to look for. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Look for a used Eotech or aimpoint. My personal preference is Eotech. Have seen used ones in the 275 range.
Aimpoint is more durable and battery life is much greater.
Eotech is a faster aiming sight with its larger field of view. If you ever intend on using nightvision the EO will smoke the aimpoint. The aimpoint will look like your looking down a barrel, the EO will allow you to see the whole field.

Eotech is an excellent choice--there's used ones coming up all the time. If you want something half the price that will serve you well, look into the Vortex Sparc ($200). It's like an aimpoint, without the insanely long battery life or insane ruggedness--both of which I'm sure you'll never need. My preference is the eotech though--if your budget allows it, that's the one you would probably like best.

Is the Aimpoint a holo site? Thought they were just red dots....

Eotech and Aimpoint are the best on the market right now, but if you don't have the budget for them, Primary Arms has a good reputation. I've never used one of their holographics, but look up reviews and I'm sure you'll find that it will suit your needs.

Eotech = holographic
Aimpoint = red dot
Either are gtg, i prefer the small size and light weight of the Aimpoint Micro.

Meprolight makes a military grade sight that also will accomadate night vision and has a 3X magnifier.

Look on ar15.com in the optics classifieds--lots of used eotechs for $300-$500 depending. Research what model you want. I use the 557 because it uses cheap, easy to find AA's and it has multiple dots for multiple ranges, plus it's NVG compatible. The cheapest eotech is a 512, which is not NVG compatible, but is still a very great piece--has a 1 moa dot and a 65 moa "donut of death"

Trijicon Reflex is pretty awesome, just hate the large MOA dot they use.
Eotech is Awesome if you want a cheap one just watch the classifieds there are always some in there, also check your local pawnshops.

Smurf, I think they have triangle reticles too. Just shoot off the apex.

I have used the Eo Tech on previous deployments. It is very durable and has fairly good battery life. If it were me, thats what I would choose,but eithe one are good. It boils down to what you like best.
