Looking at a place in eastern Baylor County bordering archer county. How are deer populations and genetics in this area? Any other helpful information about the area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The area can be good and produce some really nice bucks. Decent numbers, but not great. Of course much depends on the actual place and whether it's been managed well along with the neighbors. We had a place just east of there for a couple years that had potential, but it had really been shot up and the leasing agent was day hunting during the week unbeknownst to us at the time. Had some guys close to us take some nice ones though.

I've got a 3,600 acre lease on 422 just east of Seymour. There are deer there but size wize they are not as good as other places I have hunted. A 130 inch buck would be considered pretty good in this area. There are tons of hogs and coyotes if you like to hunt those.

The area is extremely dry and my game cameras have shown some very poor antler growth as would be expected with conditions such as they are.

I think the main problem in this area is that it is heavily hunted by alot of hunters on each lease. I mostly bow hunt and once rifle season starts it sounds like a war zone all around the ranch I hunt on.

Good luck if you go for it. Just be prepared for a sub-par season this year and probably into the next couple of seasons if no rain comes in this fall and upcoming year.
