Any of you use the Kolpin Louisiana Trailer tie down? It is bolted to the floor of your trailer and is attached to your UTV receiver hitch via trailer hitch. Anyway, I am looking for a better, more efficient and safe way to haul my 3010 trans mule long distances over sometime rough terrain, without having to stop every mile or two to tighten up the wratchet straps. Any ideas or what do you use?

For my Ranger I use a 3/8" chain and boomer on the rear, no matter what happens that puppy is not coming foreward. On the front I use a 2" ratchet strap pulling it to the front of trailer, also have a strap running through 1.25" roll cage tubing pulling foreward and down. Not sure what it would take to shake Ranger off but I hope I never find out.
My wife must be a cross between a Indian and a bulldog. When she's not on the warpath, she's sitting on her butt growling.

I use heavy duty wratchet straps with locking hooks that have a clasp on em to keep em from falling off even if they get a little loose. I have one with a 30' strap that i wrap all the way under the trailer and around the mule, and i've never had to tighten that one midway through my trip.
Hope this helps you out.

If you are having to tighten up the wrachet straps then they are sliping or what ever you are strapping them to is bending/moving.
Get some good straps tighten them down right the first time and you shouldnt have any problems. We haul a tractor and loose implements and a tractor over some pretty piss poor gravel/dirt county roads and never have to tighten them. Something is wrong with how you are tying them down or your straps are turning loose.

The ratchet straps work but I would like to find something less time consuming. I use this mule to hunt but also for showing ranches, meaning multiple load/unloads during a busy day.

Dont know if it is legal or not, but my uncle hauls his on a trailer with higher sides than a normal flatbed, may be 2-3 feet, he drives it all the way against the front of the trailer and ties the front bumper of the mule to the trailer top rail, never had a problem.

I just recently mounted a ratcheting load binder with chains and hooks to the front of my utility trailer and I hook the hooks into two holes in the metal skid plate under the Rhino. When I tighten that load binder down intil the front rail starts putting a dimple in the front tires my Rhino don't budge. I still use a couple of ratchet straps on the rear. I guess I too have had my ratchet straps slip several times and the Rhino has moved back several inches in the past. Now that I am carrying a new generator behind the Rhino and only have 1" of clearance between the generator and the muffler of the Rhino I cannot afford to have the Rhino moving back even an inch. That was my solution and it works great.

The ratcheting load binder mounted on the front of the utility trailer, kind of like a boat winch situation, was one of the things I have been contemplating. Should work. Thanks for the replies and ideas.

i have found if you have a wench on front i will ratchet mine down with heavy 2" on rear pulling backwards and then hook my wench to front and it keeps it tight as can be. your will get alot of stretch out of smaller ratchets, but go with the heavy 2" and i will sometimes stretch mine before use with just wrapping around a tree or something and pulling my rzr against it.

Get a load binder, chains don't stretch.

I used come-a-longs for many years. I now chain the rear of the wheeler and tighten it down with a 2 speed boat trailer winch.
