Curious if any of you guys are familiar with the $200 leases that have land in the Katy/Waller/Brookshire/El Campo areas. Are these productive or just a place to watch the grass grow?

Some of the lands available are close enough that I could hunt after work. So it is appealing.

Thoughts?

I agree with you. When I lived in the Houston area I was looking at the same thing but heard a few bad things about them so I never pulled the trigger. At the end of the day, if somethings too good to believe then it probably is. at least that's my moto.

$200 isn't a lot to loose. I just hate to spend the money and then find out there is no water, no birds, etc, when I could have gone elsewhere and been productive.

Double R Hunting Club offers a few different areas in the 529/Pattison area and a few in the south zone. Anyone use them?

All of those areas are part of the rice belt. Doesn't necessarily have to have water to be able to hunt. If its rice fields, dry or flooded, I dont think its too much to ask. Especially if there's water nearby.

Doveclub.com appears to be a little more established and only offers a limited number of leases in order to keep numbers down. Think I may give them a shot.

@Haulingboat - When I first started to dove hunt a couple years ago I was looking at this place to hunt on. Never did buy the lease and went with an outfitter located in the Richmond/Rosenburg area instead. If you do end up getting on with the Doveclub, let me know your experiences with the land and any other things. I am just curious if they are worth it, even though it is not a huge expense.

After opening day (world war III), the prairie is very unpredictable.

I would spend the money on a couple of outfitter days hunts, where they are going to put you in fields that have birds.

I was talking with a guy from my neighborhood this morning (grew up hunting in the area. He has a few friends with land around here. If he doesn't come thru with a lease I will probably sign up with Doveclub. If so, I'll post up how my experience.

I agree with Water Turkey. I tried the leases for 3 years. It's hit & miss. They tend to have a few fields out of their leases that produce. If you get assigned to a good field you can pretty much expect to be assigned to a time waster next hunt.

Now I hunt guided, private land and public. Didn't have a single bad hunt last season.

I signed on with the double r hunting club. They have 5 properties in the Hockley area and 5 areas down in the south zone. Should be interesting.
