I have a Remington Model 700, that is chambered in a 300 RUM, but was originally chambered in a 300 Win Mag by previous owner. I would like to have it back to a 300 Win Mag for cheaper cost of Ammunition, and less recoil. Is this possible? An if so How much would it cost? Thank You.

How do you know it was originally a 300 Win mag? I dont belive it is possible to change from a Win mag to an Ultra Mag because the Ultra requires a diffrent bolt face and a larger (375 H&H) length action. My advice get another gun, for a good barrel (shilen, douglas, kreiger) your looking at 500-600 installed (flutting, or stainless will be more). Yeah the recoil and price of ammo can be tough to deal with but the Ultra Mag is a much more effective round on large game.

Remington now makes rounds that go in the 300 RUM that are mirror images to the ballistics of the 30-06, the 300 Win & 300WSM and then the standard RUM. The one you would be looking at would be the power level II ammo in the 300RUM case. It's new and is a sweet idea.

Just like shotguns can shoot 2&3/4", 3", & 3&1/2" depending on the game.... Same thing goes if you get the 300 RUM. You don't even have to change or adjust the scope... 2" groups out to 200 yards with any of the 3 rounds.

Check it out at Power Level Ammo

Hope it helps.

Ha that power level ammo looks like a good idea, its like the managed recoil idea taken to the next level. I think its funny how every company out there claims that their big 30 is the fastest, flatest, most hardest hitting super duper magnum ever, but if you look at the numbers from 3rd party tests they all run almost the exact same.

I have a Remington satin stainless 23" 300 Win Mag that is in perfect condition...would be a easy job for a compentent gunsmith to screw into a 700 action and headspace it. I will sell it to you for $100. Call me if you are interested. 512-856-0009.
