I'm thinking why not use my truck to raise and lower me hanging feeder instead of a winch. Whenever feeding its always in my truck so why not use that already available power? Has anyone come up with a system to do this?

I would think that they havehowever IMO a brake winch is the better way to go. A boat winch will work but as Allan Funt used to say "one of these days when you least expect it...." Make up a double loop or what ever one to be hooked to you truck and the other to secure or unsecure the feeder it guess.

Nothing wrong with that idea at all. Like the previous individual stated, uses a double loop in the cable or wire - one to hook to truck (in between the feeder and loop that hooks to lag bolt in tree or whatever you use to secure end loop to). Downside at my place is the trees are too far apart to connect the other end of a cable to. In other words end of cable goes straight don to connect to lag boltWhat I am getting at is this idea requres the end of the cable to be at some what of an angle so you can pull up to the cable, hook the second loop, backup to relieve pressure off of end loop to unhook from tree, then put it in drive to lower feeder. The process is reversed for raising it back up.

The only down side to this idea is if you have to keep the feeders as high as i do due to cows - (i cant afford to build pens) - and all you want to do is check battery etc, then you can save time by using the winch as opposed to hooking it up to truck etc. Other downside is if you dont have a fourwheeler and the property is too muddy (if rain ever comes) to get a vehicle to the feeder.

if the right setup exist it is a piece of cake. Winch on a fourwheeler can work pretty good to.

What I did was build a portable hanging mount out of a 4 x 4 (looks like a hanging gallow). Winch is lagged on to very bottom of 8' upright. Horizontal piece is appr 3' long with a diagonal support brace. I hang it in a tree about 15' ft up (uses a cheater pulley system to winch it up). The it is good to go. Can get a feeder in the air in 30 minutes. Have about $50 tied up in hardware and it will outlast the barrels that hang from it.

Drawing is awesome but unless you have a physical disability I would just stick a winch on that thing an dbe done with it. Get one with a brake though - cost a little more but well worth it.

If you do have a physical disability then it looks like it will work if the legs of the tripod are firmly tposted to the ground. especially the leg you are using as an anchor point. If you have a 4 wheeler that you use for filling feeders and have winch on it - that would work as well.
