This girl needs opinions. I absolutely love 1911 style pistols. Having said that and the want for it being 9mm.
What would y'all pick? Price range would need to be $1000.00 and under.
Not picky on barrel length either.
Let it fly fellas.

I just recieved my FNH FNX in 9mm through the mail from Buds. It was $525 shipped. I haven't had a chance to shoot it, but planning on doing a little range report once I do. I bought it because my dad wants a handgun but I didn't want to part with my beloved Glock 19.
So far I'm very impressed with the built quality of it. If I were being totally objective, meaning disregarding my extreme bias for Glocks, I would say it's built much better than a Glock or the polymer Sigs. They call it a poor man's USP but I think it's built just as well. Not nearly as good feeling as a one of the metal Sigs, 226 or 229, but pretty darn close. It has an actual safety, decocker (USP style), and is fully ambidextrous for both slide realse and safety. It comes in a farily nice case and 3 mags, which is thought was awesome since the last Sig I bought only came with one. It's a little too big too carry, but I still would in the winter time. But then again I carry my full size 1911 in the winter time. All the extra back straps that come with it also turns out to be fairly handy.
If this thing shoots well for me, I think FN has just gotten an life time fan.
That all said, I still really want a full size 226, just didn't feel like paying for one at this point.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

Janie, Springfield makes a nice 1911 "Loaded = PX9130LP" in 9MM Stainless match barrel and bushing, 3-dot low-profile combat sights, match grade trigger, ambi-safety, 2-piece full length guide rod and cocobolo hardwood grips in Matte SS finish. Looks sharp and should retail around 850-900 it's at the top end of the budget after tax but is probably one of the better 1911's in 9MM out there right now. http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=23

Didn't you really like your Taurus 1911 Janie? They make it in 9mm, $484 at Buds. That gives you a lot left over for ammo! http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/59330Have I mentioned how much I like CZ75's, especially the Compact? It's my daily carry, built like a tank, very accurate. It's one of the most prolific pistols in the world and very affordable.

I too am a 1911 fan as well as a Glock fan. I bought a HK USP earlier this year in 9mm. I will admit I like the HK more than any of the Glocks I have owned. The HK comes standard with a lot smoother trigger about the biggest difference I noticed.

Thanks fellas. Most appreciated. KC, The Taurus pistols are okay, but I've gotten bored with them, and honestly I shoot better with Bill's Kimber and the last Colt I had blew my socks off.
TS, thanks for the Springfield link. That is a definite possibility. I also like the Colt Defender in 9mm
HwyMan, wish you were closer. I'd take you up on your offer.

B Hi Power's are great, and under 800 new; Colt' New Agent is getting great marks, loved the one we saw through here, and is under 900;
Oh, BTW, Taurus 1911's would be $489 out the door here, no need to deal with buds and a transfer and shipping and all that...

I have the Colt New Agent in .45. And like it so much that I plan on adding the 9mm version to my inventory. Once you get used to the trench sites they're nice little shooters. I've shot all types of ammo thru mine without a single FTF.
The one thing I will recommend with it is to change out the grip safety to a true beaver tail one. That short little one that comes standard dug a nice little groove in my hand. It might not be as bad with the 9mm version due to the difference in recoil between the two calibers.
Glock: It's like a hammer, not very pretty but works when you need it.

I have a friend who builds custom 1911's. He said hands down if you are buying a factory 1911 for around $1000, the Springfield Loaded is the way to go. It wasn't even close for strength and durability. Nothing else even came close.
I do like the feel of the FNP / FNX guns. A lot. If you are interested in the polymer framed route, I'd serious consider that one.

I always thought a 9mm 1911 would be a cool addition to the collection and if I bought one, I would go with a Springfield.

My Springfield 9mm 1911 is extremely accurate with little recoil. Definately a good choice.

I loved my P239 in 9mm especially with the SRT and short trigger installed. I have smaller hands and really like the fit. Waiting on my new one to get here brand new P239 SAS in 9mm that I stole on Gunbroker.

Check out the Browning BDM listed in the classifieds here. It's a good one. The Duel Mode is great for training.
